There will be separate playoffs for Category A and Category B. The 1st and 2nd place finishers in each of the pools  will go to Category A Playoffs. The 3rd and 4th place finishers in each of the pools will go to Category B Playoffs. There  will be a Gold, Silver and Bronze medal for each category.

Playoff Draws Category A

We will ensure that all 4 quarterfinal matches have a 1st place team vs a 2nd place team. This will be generated by  Badminton Alberta and the Tournament Software prior to Provincials, but will not be published until Friday night,  after completion of the round robin.

Playoff Draws Category B

8. COMPETITION INFORMATION

COMPETITION RULES:

• Players will be allowed no more than 5 minutes between matches except between the semi-final and final match.  This break will be no more than 15 minutes.

• Please be prompt. When your match is called, check in with the venue coordinator immediately. If a competitor  does not check in within 5 minutes, the match will be defaulted.

Warm-ups will be limited to no more than 2 minutes. Once athletes step onto the court, there will be no coaching during the 2-minute warm up.

• Players will decide a side or serve at the beginning of the match by tossing up the shuttle. The winner of the previous game will serve first in the next game. Players will change sides at the end of each game and at 11 points if there is a third game. All  games are to 21, win by 2 - cap at 30.

We will have 2 trained line judges on each court. They will make the calls. Players must not coerce or make a call of their own - they must let the line judge make the call. If the line judge indicates that they did not see the shuttle land on the court - then the athlete on that side of the court will make the call. There should be no reserves. If difficulties arise, the venue coordinator must be notified immediately.

• The server is expected to call the score prior to each serve so each athlete and the scorekeepers can hear it.

• We will have scorekeepers on each court with flippers keeping track of the scores. Note: they are not officials and will have no involvement in the match - they are just there to update scores for the fans.

Players are allowed a 1 minute interval during each game once one side reaches 11 points. The athlete is not allowed to leave the court and there will be NO coaching allowed during this time.

Coaching will only be allowed after the first game for 1 full minute and after the second game for two full minutes. During this time, neither the coach nor the athlete may leave the court.

• At the conclusion of the match, each player must sign the score sheet. Both players are  then required to bring  the score sheet to the scorer's table.

• All medals will be presented after the Final matches, followed by pictures of the gold medalists.

HOUSE RULES:

• There will be viewing upstairs as well as limited viewing down at the courts. Only accredited coaches will be allowed to go on the courts and sit in the coaches chairs when their athletes are playing. Coaching is allowed only as described in the Competition Rules.

9. EQUIPMENT AND UNIFORM POLICY

GAME SHUTTLE:

• The official game shuttle will be the Yonex Mavis 300 - Green Cap (slow)

• The game shuttles will be provided at all venues from Yonex - Leave the shuttle on the court when your match is complete. If a new shuttle is needed please bring the old one back to the draw desk.

UNIFORMS:

Athletes must compete in a uniform that distinguishes their school or zone. Uniforms

contrary to this rule will be considered illegal. When playing doubles, the uniforms shall match. It is highly

encouraged that teams have matching shorts, but not mandatory. Clothing with offensive language or

symbols will not be allowed. Shorts should be worn during play. Long sleeve shirts are allowed to be worn

underneath the team uniform - however it should match the color of the school uniform or be white or

black. Athletic pants are also allowed if necessary, however the color of the “undergarments” should

match. For example - if you have a black long sleeve shirt under your team uniform top, then you are

allowed to wear black athletic pants. No hats or dew rags shall be worn during competition or warm-up.

The venue coordinator will instruct player(s) to change if not in compliance with the dress code.

SERVING:

The whole shuttle shall be below the server’s waist at the instant of being hit by the server’s racket. The waist

shall be considered to be an imaginary line around the body, level with the lowest part of the server’s bottom

rib. The shaft and the racket head of the server’s racket at the instant of hitting the shuttle shall be pointing

in a downward direction.” (BWF Alternative Service Laws 9.1.6)
