LWVSJ Observer Corps* Notes: SJI School Board, December 13, 2023
The Friday Harbor Elementary School choir lead by Shannon Danskine opened the board meeting with three songs to welcome the holiday season.
Fred Woods swore in two returning board members, T.J. Heller and Brian Moore. John Kurtz was not present but will be sworn in later.
Board officers were elected with Sarah Werling-Sandwith returning as Vice Chair and WIAA Rep, Barbara Bevin as Board Chair and T.J. Heller as Legislative Rep.
Superintendent Fred Woods reported that the Pre-K Development Program is scheduled to begin January 15, 2024. State grants will fund the program for this year and potential new state grants may fund the program for the next school year.
Jose Domenech reported that enrollment was steady and budget numbers were on track for the month.
The Capital and Technology levy will be on the February 2024 ballot. As required, they are seeking committees to present the pro and con positions. The pro position has three people selected and approved. They are seeking candidates to represent the con position. Position statements are due by December 22.
A “Day on the Hill” in Olympia has been scheduled for January 28-29, 20245.
The next meeting will be January 31, 2024
