The Idea of Home (Documenting Place in Time)

There are many different ways of thinking about what home and being “at home” means. In this work, you will make a video reflecting your idea of home and the feelings, experiences, and sensations you have in the space that you consider home. You will create a personal interpretation of a location of your choosing that you associate with feelings of home.
Instructions
- Put into practice a research-based approach to making art. In this case, you will consider your expanded idea of time-based media by considering:
- the sound, image, and editing- to see how those choices affect the meaning in:
- the artworks shared/screened during this course.
- Be intentional:
- Consider which footage approach(es) may support your meaning, message(s), idea(s)
- filming original footage, sourcing footage (from an archive, from a public web or social media source), by collecting footage from someone else, etc.
- How will your decisions in the following areas perpetuate meaning, message(s), idea(s)?
- edit, sequence, layer, collage, pace, and the relationship between shots.
- Parameters:
- Use ONLY the sound you record as you shoot your video.
- Use Art/Media cage equip only.
- The completed video should be between 2-4 minutes.

Compilation of a series of Special Report series. Looks at life in Japan. Compares the bustle of Tokyo to the relative quiet of Kyoto. The overview includes commerce, local customs (flower arranging, tea ceremonies), the Shinkansen (bullet train), and New Jersey's long association with Fukui, Japan (since 1867) when the first Japanese student entered Rutgers University. Also discusses the Griffis Collection at Rutgers University, which details the history of William Griffis' relationship with the city of Fukui. Issued in four segments that are represented on this videorecording.
