JEFFERSON AMATEUR RADIO CLUB - W5GAD

Services for
Licensed Amateur Operators

Jefferson ARC offers services for all licensed amateur radio operators in the form of many different types of repeaters and gateways. First the repeater and gateway services are outlined with the information needed to connect to them. Then the equipment that provides those services is provided. All licensed amateur radio operators are allowed to use the repeaters and gateways as long as it is done within the laws of amateur radio and more importantly within the laws of mature conduct.

GMRS (General Mobile Radio Service)

GMRS is a radio service controlled by the FCC, like FRS (Family Radio Service). Neither is part of the “Amateur Radio” service, but it is becoming more popular, so we decided to put up a repeater. You DO need a license from the FCC to use GMRS, and you will get a new call sign different from your ham call sign (four letters followed by three numbers - our repeater is controlled by WSAB263).

The repeater is currently at the club, but will be moved to a taller location soon. Our repeater is on Channel 21 and if you have a GMRS handheld, it will allow you to access our repeater by selecting that channel. If you have a different radio (like the Tidradio H3), you can configure it to use the GMRS channels manually. The club repeater is called 700JARC and can be programmed to receive at 462.700, transmit at 467.700, CTCSS 114.8, call sign WSAB263. The repeater transmits at the maximum of 50 watts, which transceivers can also use. But non-repeater channels are more limited in power.
