Course Description:

A Washington State Learning Standards based curriculum to prepare 7th grade students to pass the grade appropriate state required test (Smarter Balanced) and to prepare students to take higher level math classes.

Pre-Requisites:

Completion of Math 6, or comparable class in Grade 6; teacher recommendation

Textbooks and Instructional Materials:  

There are a variety of instructional materials that support learning in this course. The primary textbook is Glencoe Math: Course 2 (McGraw-Hill). Technology is integrated in this course through a variety of supplemental digital media resources.

Grading:

Students achieve their grade in a Standards based grading system.  Grades are maintained within the Eastmont School District Student Information System.  The secure student information system including the gradebook for this course, are accessible to students and parents 24/7/365 through the student and parent portal via our website at www.eastmont206.org.

Standards Based Grades:

Accommodations and/or modifications:  

Appropriate accommodations and/or modifications will be provided for students with documented disabilities.  Accommodations and modifications are types of adaptations that are made to the environment, curriculum, instruction, or assessment practices in order for students with disabilities to be successful learners and actively participate with other students in the general education classroom or in school-wide activities. Specific accommodations and modifications are determined by the student’s Section 504 team or Individual Education Program team.  If a student with a documented disability is eligible to receive accommodations and/or modifications their special education case manager will contact me within the first two weeks of class and provide me with explicit directions and/or resources to implementing the accommodations and/or modifications that are included on the student’s Section 504 plan or Individual Education Program.  Communication with me is essential to the successful completion of course expectations and the implementation of accommodations and/or modifications.

Attendance, Behavior, and Performance Expectations:  

Student success is dependent upon respecting and following the rules of conduct outlined in Board Policy #3241 and described in the student handbook.  Both are available on the website at www.eastmont206.org.

Make-up Work:  

Eastmont School District Policy and Procedures #3122 for excused absences and make-up work apply to this course.  Specifically, “If an absence is excused, the student will be permitted to make up all missed assignments outside of class under reasonable conditions and time limits…”  All the activities and learning opportunities for this course are expected to be completed.  Absences, whether excused or unexcused, cause gaps in learning.

Miscellaneous: 

Retake Policy: Retakes are always for full credit.

• Maximum of 1 retake a day.
• For a Concept retake 🡪 complete the Concept Practice. Each problem must be completed correctly, with the work supporting the answers.  Your practice is turned in and checked.
• To retake a Mini-Quiz, 🡪 work through any practice provided, showing how your work/reasoning supports your answers. Your practice is turned in and checked.
• To retake a Cumulative Assessment 🡪 work through every problem that was missed on the Cumulative (fixing any mistakes), showing how your work/reasoning supports your answers.  Your practice is turned in and checked.
• Extra practice may also be assigned.
• After meeting Practice requirements, you can request a Retake.
• Note:  It may take another day or so for the Retake to be available (they are usually made up on-demand).
• If you demonstrate mastery of a concept, your score and grade will reflect that learning.

4 pts – Assignment complete with all work shown, and turned in on time

3 pts – Assignment complete with all work shown, late (within a week of due date)

2 pts – Assignment complete with work shown, late.

1 pt. – Assignment Partially complete

0 pts- Assignment not-done/missing

Things you will need to bring to class every day:

• A Math Folder in your binder to keep work together. I will provide folder for in the classroom.
• Pencils or Pens
• Composition book (Graph) Highly recommended
• Math Book (McGraw Hill)
• A Good attitude

• Highly Recommended:

• Colored Highlighters or Colored Pens 
• Scientific calculator (There is a set to use in class not to leave the room with them)

• Recommended Scientific Calculator:  TI-36XPro (it’s what I use daily in class)
• Alternate Recommendation:  TI-30XS
• Alternate Recommendation #2:  Casio fx-115ES PLUS
