School Wide Grading Policy 2018-19

  1. Students will receive progress reports mid-semester and report cards at the end of each semester.  Progress reports and report cards will be distributed in crew and mailed home to families.  Students and families can access student grades on PupilPath in between progress reports and report cards.

  1. Graded standards will be selected from the list of content and skills based standards (Long Term Learning Targets) in Skedula.

  1. Summative assessments are graded according to mastery of learning targets.  Students have multiple opportunities to show growth in a learning target over the course of the semester.  Summative assessments comprise 80% of a student’s course grade.

  1. Each marking period must include at least three summative assessment grades.  Record of formative assessments scores may be kept, but are unweighted.

  1. No single project or summative assessment is weighted higher than 20% of a student's total grade for the semester.  Semester grades are cumulative, not the average of two marking periods.

  1. Students may make up major assignments for excused and unexcused absences and late work until the close of the marking period.  Missing assignments are marked as a 50 in PupilPath.  All grades shall be reported on a scale of 50-100.  

  1. Chronic absences and latenesses are communicated in a timely manner to families and crew teachers.  Latenesses are recorded in late logs and tracked.

  1. Habits of Work and Leadership (HOWL) learning targets comprise 20% of students’ overall course grade.  Students will receive regular feedback on their HOWL performance.

  1. Explore Week courses are assessed and graded following the guidelines above and are graded on a scale of 50-100.
