Inclusion & Fair Sport
Approved by the Board on September 5, 2023
It is the responsibility of all members of Seattle Frontrunners (“the Club”) to comport themselves in a manner that reflects well on the Club, its five core values (Welcoming, Genuine, Inclusive, Positive, and Community Oriented), and the goal of our founders to showcase athletic ability and excellence of LGBTQIA+ people. This policy applies to all members, regardless of whether they are competing in a Club or third party event, and to any team that would not have come into existence without using the Club’s resources and/or events, regardless of whether the team is using the Club’s name and/or funds.
At all times, members shall:
- Encourage a spirit of collaboration, teamwork, and support among members over one of competition in both words and gestures, including cheering, when appropriate.
- When the Club fields multiple competitors in the same event, participants should cheer and support each other, even if on competing teams.
- Support and encourage members in reaching their individual goals, regardless of speed.
- Observe all stated rules of the race or event, including on-course guidance from race officials. No member of the Club may ever knowingly cheat, intentionally fail to observe, or deliberately disobey the rules of a race or athletic event. Members found to be in violation of this requirement shall be subject to immediate expulsion from the Club.
- Demonstrate respect to all race participants, race officials, and volunteers.
- Show respect, care, and support for fellow participants from the Club.
When leading a team, the team leader must:
- Obtain the explicit permission of the President or the full Board of Directors to use the Club’s name on a team.
- Devise an inclusive and equitable system for opening participation to all members and assigning them to teams that prioritizes transparency and the broadest possible inclusion of club members.
- In relays, assign legs after soliciting preferences from all team members, and strive to accommodate as many preferences as possible. When possible, leaders are encouraged to make these decisions on a consensus basis with all team members. A team captain, for example, might also ask participants for their top two or three choices, after which they honor as many preferences as possible.
Perceived violations of this policy may be reported to and reviewed using the Code of Conduct Reporting Procedure.
