Garden Coordinator Position Description

Taproot Collective designs and builds holistic systems for healthy local food, dignified housing, and educational opportunities with youth and families. The First Market Farm Community Food Program is a 7-month youth development program where youth interns design and deliver community garden and cooking classes with a focus on community engagement, intergenerational education and cultural identities. The Community Food Program trains youth to be social change leaders by exploring issues of social justice, food sovereignty, and community engagement while sharing knowledge and experiences with their communities.

Responsibilities

Under the supervision of the Farm Manager and in collaboration with the Kitchen Coordinator, the Garden Coordinator prepares and maintains First Market Farm for teaching, food production, and distribution activities. The Garden Coordinator works closely with the Kitchen Coordinator to supervise 2 youth interns and 1 near-peer youth mentor. They will be responsible for:

The Garden Coordinator position runs April - October 2019 for a total of 275 hours at $18.00/hour.
