Classroom Guidelines
1. NO WHINING. I know this year is different and we are all adjusting to the new guidelines and safety procedures, as well as a new school and a new class. But the work I assign and the way in which it gets done is for a reason. You are in school to learn, and classwork and homework are mandatory.
2. Respect. Respect is earned not given. Respect your teacher and your teacher will respect you.
3. Be polite. Do not interrupt the teacher during the lesson. If you have a question or need to leave the room, please wait until the teacher is done speaking.
4. If you have a question, comment, or concern, raise your hand.
5. ¡Hablamos español en clase! This is Spanish class, Spanish will be used throughout the majority of class time. This includes students as well as the teacher. If you need to leave the room for any reason, you will ask in Spanish or you will not be permitted to leave.
6. Constant class interruption to leave the room will result in the loss of these privileges.
7. ¡No te rindes! Don’t give up! This class is 100% passable and I am here to help you succeed. If you need help just ask!
8. If you don’t have anything nice to say, don’t say anything at all. Rude/disrespectful and/or inappropriate language/comments IN ANY LANGUAGE will not be tolerated at any point during class time.
9. Cell phone use is prohibited during class time unless otherwise stated. Use of your phone during class without the teacher’s permission will result in confiscation of the cell phone for the remainder of the class period.
10. Cheating on any test, quiz or homework is not allowed. This includes: using google translate to translate your homework/project/etc…, copying homework from another student, or obtaining answers using prohibited sources during class or at home.
11. WHEN THE BELL RINGS DON’T LEAVE! YOUR TEACHER DISMISSES YOU NOT THE BELL! When the bell rings, everyone MUST be in their seats and you MUST wait for your teacher to say “¡tenga un buen día clase!” in which you will reply, “¡gracias igual!”. This is a sign of respect towards your teacher and is a must EVERY DAY.
Classroom Consequences
1. A warning will be given if a student interrupts the class or the teacher more than once and will be spoken to after class.
2. Student will receive a phone call home in the event of:
- 3 or more classroom interruptions
- 3 or more missing homework assignments
- consistent absence from class
- missing exams/quizzes (frequent absences on test/quiz days)
- in danger of failing the class
3. Students will receive disciplinary actions and a phone call home in the event of:
- disrespecting the teacher or any classmate
- fighting or acting inappropriately in class
- refusing to do any work in class
- cheating on a test/quiz/homework
Welcome to our class!
Dear parents/guardians,
As your students' new teacher, I wanted to take the opportunity to introduce myself. My name is Alexa Sanchez, and I am a 2014 and 2019 graduate from Stony Brook University. I received my Bachelors in Hispanic Language and Literature and my Master’s in ENL for grades K-12. This is my 9th year as a teacher, and my 7th year as a teacher at WWHS. Being a Walt Whitman alumnus, I am very familiar with the building and the community. I am very passionate about the culture and history behind the Spanish language and I know that I can bring a refreshing perspective to my classroom and inspire your students to love the language as much as I do! I know that the school environment has changed a lot over the past 3 years, but I am here for you and your students, and I would like to offer whatever support I can and answer any questions I can. I am here to help your students achieve success.
In addition, Infinite Campus is now live and I update it as frequently as I can. This gives you another outlet to check on your students progress and see what assignments they have handed in and the scores they receive. Every teacher is different, and they update their Infinite Campus differently so please reach out if you feel that something isn’t right. If you have any questions, comments, concerns, or if you would like to schedule a meeting with me, my email address is below. I look forward to meeting all of you and let’s help our students have a great year!
Sincerely,
Alexa Sánchez
