Good Evening Charger Families,

We want to congratulate our Cheerleaders on an awesome performance this week at the state cheerleading competition. They represented our school well as they took home 5th place.

This week we say goodbye to our Librarian Ms. Edie. Ms Edie is leaving us for an exciting opportunity closer to her home. She has transformed our library at LMS, and we will miss her, but we wish her the best and know that she will always be a Leestown Charger.

We have had a wonderful 1st semester and things are only going to get better in 2018. We hope all of our families have a safe and relaxing winter break.

The next newsletter will come out on January 7th.

Choir Concert Change

There has been a change in the date for the upcoming choir concert. CHOIR CONCERT MONDAY, DECEMBER 18th at 6:30 pm.

School Immunization

FCPS is trying to make sure all students are in compliance with their school immunization records. If you are not sure if your child has a current immunization form on file, please contact our registrar.

Winter Break Reading Day. December 19th, we will have our reading celebration day.  Students will complete a variety of activities related to a book (a different activity in each core class), receive a free book to take home and keep, and watch the movie based on the book.  Although we haven’t told the students yet, this year’s book is The Lightning Thief, the first book in the Percy Jackson series by Rick Riordan.  It includes many references to Greek mythology, so many of the activities will be related to this topic.  The book (and movie) was chosen based on student interest and because it was part of a series, in the hopes that students may be inspired to read the book and/or other books in the series or by the same author.

What to wear to have a fun and fabulous Pajama day! Follow this link for PJ Day guidelines.

Afternoon student pick-up procedure:

In order to facilitate an afternoon car rider pick up line that is safe and efficient, please follow LMS procedures for afternoon pick up:

If  you will be picking up your child in a car, we will use two lines to load. For safety, we do not want students crossing traffic or walking into the parking lot unattended. We will have teachers that will supervise students as we stop traffic to safely load students into cars. If your child is not in your car or outside when we release the pick up line traffic, we ask that you pull back around and re-enter the pick up line. This allows the car pick up line traffic to keep moving. Thank you for your understanding!

Congratulations:

To Coach Fields and our LMS Cheerleaders. They placed 5th in state competition. This was the first time Leestown Cheerleaders had won the region and had the opportunity to participate in state.

To the Leestown Orchestra under the direction of Nathan Wilson, for presenting a wonderful performance Thursday night. The 6th graders demonstrated their growth and progress by playing "Dragonhunter" and "Twas the Night Before Christmas", which is a Grade 2 piece. The 7th and 8th Graders set the bar very high with their performance of "Mystical Portal". Our ballet dancers were featured in "La Paloma". Also, "My Shot" from Hamilton was a big hit and the 8th grader's "Christmas Eve" from the Trans-Siberian Orchestra brought the audience to their feet. *Also a special thanks to the staff and parents for supporting music at LMS

PTSA:

Did you know good nutrition is an important part of leading a healthy lifestyle?  Combined with physical activity, your diet can help you to reach and maintain a healthy weight, reduce your risk of chronic diseases (like heart disease and cancer), and promote your overall health.

Mark your calendars and join us on Thursday, January 11th from 6 to 7:30 pm for Leestown’s Community Health and Wellness Fair.  Vendors will be on-hand to demonstrate healthy habits from cooking to exercise.  Prizes will be raffled off at 7:15 pm.  This event is sponsored by Leestown Health and Wellness Committee and Leestown PTSA.
