The Trump Administration has kidnapped Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro and started a blatantly criminal war against Venezuela. These are nakedly imperialist acts to install a US puppet government that will give Venezuela’s oil resources over to US corporations and to force US hegemony over Latin America—the new “Trump Corollary” to the Monroe Doctrine. This war is illegal both under international law and the laws governing the declaration of war within the United States.
Democratic Socialists of America is calling on DSA chapters and all people of the United States to take action this Saturday, January 10th, to protest this illegal war and stand in solidarity with the sovereign people of Venezuela.

- Free President Maduro and First Lady Cilia Flores NOW
- Pass the War Powers Resolution
- Impeach Trump for War Crimes
- No War for Oil
- End All Sanctions Against Venezuela

Key Details
- President Trump has directed an act of war which violates International and US law.
- This is a violation of Venezuelan sovereignty.
- Kidnapping a sovereign nation’s leader is a deranged act of aggression to exert US domination over Latin America — and part of Trump’s explicit plan to run the Western Hemisphere.
- The justifications for this war are ludicrous and do not hold water. Trump is lying to the American people to stir up anger and justify violence.
- Trump’s own DEA says that Venezuela plays an extremely minor role in the flow of drugs to the United States.
- We call for Trump to release President Maduro and First Lady Cilia Flores immediately and for Congress to rein in Trump’s war-crazed actions through the War Powers Resolution.
- This illegal act of aggression will have significant consequences for American citizens at home and abroad—makes the American people less safe, and subject to retaliation.
- This is another illegal regime-change war for oil just like the failed Iraq War.
