December 5                                Early Release (Grades 6-12)

Dear Parents and Friends of Windham High School,

It is hard to believe that the first quarter of the year is already coming to an end.  My family and I have had a wonderful time being reintroduced to the RSU 14 community.  I continue to be impressed by the pride and school spirit at the high school and in the community both during the school day and at events.

The first quarter ends on Friday, November 2, and grades will be posted in Infinite Campus by the following Friday, November 9th.  This year we will be reporting both class grades, and student progress toward meeting specific graduation standards that have been assigned to each class.  We will also report on students’ habits of work (HOW) which relate to progress toward meeting social and academic responsibilities.  If you would like to learn more about our grading and reporting system I encourage you to go to the Standards Based Reporting tab under academics on the high school website. You can also access the information here:  Standards Based Reporting

Many seniors are already on their way to completing impressive Capstone Projects.  I am excited about potential to help our students form connections with the community that the Capstone Project provides.  More information about the Capstone can be found on the high school webpage: Capstone Project

Great job to all of our student athletes for their hard work and dedication to their teams over the fall season.  I am especially proud of the manner in which our teams conducted themselves, both on and off of the playing field.

I would like to encourage each and every member of the community to join us at a performance of Disney’s The Little Mermaid, which opens the weekend of November 9th

 Thank you,

Ryan Caron

If your child is not interested in the military, but simply wants to take the ASVAB as a career planning tools, they are welcome to do so and they can opt out of their scores being sent to the military.

Freshman Focus:  School counselors met with all freshman in Freshman Focus during the week of October 22nd.  Students were given Naviance accounts and introduced to the many features of the online program.  Naviance is a tool that helps our students research careers, complete personality/interest assessments, and investigate post-secondary options over their four years in high school.  Please ask your freshman to show you their Naviance account – they can even give YOU your own Naviance account through their account.  Counselors will be visiting Freshman Focus classes again in mid-November to discuss career planning!

PSATs:  We administered the PSATs to 400 sophomore and junior students on October 10th. Scores should be available in mid-December. Students will be able to log-in to collegeboard.org to access their PSAT results and create a personalized study plan through Khan Academy’s Official SAT Practice site (https://www.khanacademy.org/sat). We highly encourage juniors to connect to Khan Academy as soon as possible to start preparing for their school day SAT in the spring.  All juniors will be taking the SAT on Tuesday, April 9th.

Senior Capstone Project

With the new Senior Capstone graduation requirement, it is more important than ever for the schools to be connected with our local business community. We are always looking for individuals and businesses willing to speak in classrooms, serve as internship locations, and be points-of-contact for students. If you or your employer would like to learn more about becoming involved in any of these ways, please reach out to the Director of Community Connections at lhane@rsu14.org.

Food For Fines Week

*November 13th - 20th, 2018*

If a student has fines for overdue library books, he/she should look for an announcement from the library next month!

Students who bring in non-perishable items for our Feeding Friendz food pantry during this week can have all of their overdue fines waived. Have your student check with the librarians to see if they owe any fines!

(Sorry, this does not count toward lost or damaged items.)
