Gold Coach and Masters Coach

Kalen has been involved in swimming for 22 years. He swam for various USA Swimming clubs in Florida, Rhode Island, California, and Hawai'i, until moving onto college swimming. He swam for the University of Hawai'i for three years, where he was a Conference USA finalist in the 500 Free, 400 I.M., and 1650 Free. He transferred to Whitworth University (in Spokane, Washington) for his last two years of college, where he was a NCAA Division III All-American in the 400 I.M. and 1650 Free, while also winning NWC Conference titles in the 400 I.M., 1650 Free, 200 I.M., 500 Free, and 200 Backstroke. He graduated from Whitworth University in 2011 with a B.A. in Journalism and Mass Communication. After graduation, Kalen competed on the international circuit as a professional triathlete while coaching club swimming in Spokane. He was the Head Coach for Spokane Area Swimming for four years before moving to Oakdale two years ago. Kalen has coached all age-groups, as well as triathlon specific swimming groups. Kalen coached a 2016 Jr. Pan Pac bronze medalist and 2016 Olympic Trials semi-finalist in the 200 Breaststroke, which earned him a spot on the National Junior Team coaching list from 2016-2017. Kalen worked as an assistant swimming coach for University of the Pacific before working with the Oakdale Gators this summer. He is currently pursuing his MBA from CSUMB.
