(Updated 24/11/23)

COMPETITION ENTRY FEES: £35

A fee of £35 is payable to enter each event, however we ask competitors to pay their £35 entry fee ONLY ONCE the event is confirmed as definitely going ahead. This saves the need to issue refunds, should we be faced with a last minute call-off.

During the week leading up to each event, pre-registered competitors are emailed, and informed whether an event is going ahead or not. If YES, competitors will then be asked to pay their competition entry fee of £35. Please note that uplift tickets are not included and will need to be purchased separately.

ON COMPETITION DAY

Please arrive early to check-in and receive your bib.

There is then a competitor briefing which will confirm the expected weather conditions, the state of the snowpack, and the location of the competition face start and finish areas. This is followed by a safety brief and equipment check.

Riders are then free to ascend the hill, recce the competition face area and have some warm-up runs before the judged runs start (usually around midday but this can vary according to venue and conditions).

Riders then compete in their respective categories.

The competition follows the internationally recognised Freeride World Tour format whereby each competitor is judged on their performance on single freeride run down a designated off-piste, often rocky and steep competition face.

Each rider is scored by a panel of judges out of 100 points based on an overal impression of the following 5 criteria:-

  1. LINE DIFFICULTY
  2. FLUIDITY
  3. JUMPS
  4. TECHNIQUE
  5. CONTROL

RANKING

The panel of judges then rank competitors according to their score in their respective category:-

TEAMS:

Competitors are also encouraged to enter the comps as part of a team (min 3 riders). This is not compulsory if you can join up with a few mates it makes for a great team spirit on the day. After all scores are in, the team with the best average individual rankings wins the team title.

Teams can be made up from companies, universities, ski patrol teams, clubs - in fact just about any combination of people can form and register as a team of any name. You might just be a bunch of riders wish to compete together.

Note: Should two teams have the same average ranking the team with the highest total points win.

PRIZE GIVING & SOCIAL

After the lifts close, and at a designated time, prize giving will take place, usually in the base station cafe. There is then the chance for a bit of a social on the Saturday night.

SERIES POINTS

After the results are determined for each event, series points are then awarded to each competitor for their ranking:-

1st = 100 series points

2nd = 80 series points

3rd = 60 series points

4th = 50 series points

5th = 45 series points

…etc see full table

OVERALL BRITISH FREERIDE CHAMPIONS
