 February 2024

Welcome back to 2024! We are excited to kick off another netball season.

Due to a delayed start to the season, we have collated some key points to hopefully provide some clarity for our returning and prospective players, parents and guardians on the year ahead. As always keep an eye on our socials and your emails as we will provide updates as soon as they come to hand.

WHAT DO I NEED TO KNOW?

The 2024 Netball season is delayed due to the courts being resurfaced at Lyneham.

Round 1 will start on Saturday 4th of May 2024. There will be 11 rounds this year plus finals for those that qualify.

The North Canberra Netball Competition plays across two locations, Lyneham and Charnwood. Some teams will play half of the season at one location, and then move to the other halfway through the season. Teams that will experience change in locations will be       advised prior and reminded the week of the round.

All times noted below are when they were usually played in previous seasons;

REGISTRATION

Registrations will open later in March.

Once registration details come to hand from Canberra Netball Association they will be shared via email and on our social media platforms as soon as possible.

At this stage we expect fees to be similar to last year and we hope to confirm this with you as soon as we hear from NCNC and CNA.

Registration will be via PlayHQ which accepts various payment methods (debit and credit card, Apple pay, PayPal, and the Paypal “Pay in 4” option). Please be advised that PlayHQ has introduced a 1.49% service fee, which is applicable on all transactions.

Will teams from last year stay together?

To ensure fairness and alignment of skill ability, a committee has been established to work with all coaches to review team placements for this season.

We strive to maintain continuity within teams from past seasons, while also considering factors such as the inclusion of new players, their age, skill level, and whether participants are playing for enjoyment or competitiveness.

TRAINING

Training is usually held on a Thursday. We are still investigating when training can begin. After registration and teams have been confirmed your coach will reach out to you.

Training is always dependent on coaching availability and the number of players that attend. Please advise us if you are unable to make your training session.

Where is Training?

Usually, training is held at the Lyneham Netball Courts, however as the courts are currently being resurfaced we intend to move preseason training to Amaroo District courts.

We will notify you when training is relocated, most likely when the season begins.

Hoodies without an initial are $55, with initials $60.

If you have a second-hand dress to sell the club can manage this for you. We sell second-hand dresses for $30, and this is passed on once the sale is final. We do not pre-pay for the dress.

Uniforms will be available for purchase with your registration on PlayHQ.

VOLUNTEERS

We are always looking for volunteers and appreciate any help that can be contributed.

Our club could not run (especially not smoothly) without you! If you are interested in umpiring or coaching this year, please send us an email and we will send you more information shortly. There are also positions of team managers, scorers etc.

If you can’t commit to every weekend but would like to be more involved with SGNC please keep your eye out for fundraising events to volunteer, we appreciate all offers, and try to keep costs down for each player.
