New Teacher Academy?

BISD TEACHERS - RE-HIRED

If you taught in Birdville ISD before and have been rehired into the district, it is advisable that you consider attending New Teacher Academy. We are continually improving and growing and there may be updates or changes since you were here last.

Please seek direction from your campus administrator or district department lead, as applicable.

 Do WE come to new teacher academy?

Administrators, New

  • No, New Campus Administrators are not expected to attend New Teacher Academy.

Career & Technical Education

  • Yes, CTE Teachers will attend New Teacher Academy.
  • CTE EAs are not expected to attend.
  • CTE Coordinators will be participating in leading their department’s portion of the New Teacher Academy.

Coaches - Athletic

  • Yes, if you are a classroom teacher in addition to being an Athletic Coach.  If you are only an Athletic Coach and provide no classroom instruction, please contact the Athletics Office to determine their preference on your attendance.

Counselors

  • No.  You will receive your own on-boarding and induction training through your department leaders.

Dyslexia Instructors

  • New to Birdville Dyslexia Instructors do not need to attend New Teacher Academy unless they need TTESS Orientation.  Please reach out to Specialized Services and Supports (formally Intervention Services) to discuss and get the specific details you’ll need.

Early Childhood Educators

  • Yes, Pre-Kindergarten Teachers should plan on attending New Teacher Academy.
  • EAs are not expected to attend.

Educational Assistants

  • EAs are not expected to attend New Teacher Academy. You will receive your own on-boarding and induction training through your department/campus leaders.

Fine Arts

  • Yes, most Fine Arts Teachers will attend New Teacher Academy.  If you are already actively teaching students, defer to the Fine Arts Office for specifics on your job/role and attendance at New Teacher Academy.  
  • Fine Arts EAs are not expected to attend.

Instructional Facilitators

  • Yes, you will support NTA through direct instruction on the First Year Teacher only day.  You may be asked to support additional days as needed.  You will receive direction prior to this event.

Interventionists - Gifted & talented

  • If you are a New to Birdville GT Interventionist, you will need to present documentation of your TTESS Orientation from your previous school district.  If you do not have that, then plan on attending the day that we cover TTESS Orientation.  You’ll only need to attend for the portion of the day that this is covered.  
  • You should reach out to the GATE Coordinator for guidance on the content of the other days.

Librarians

  • Yes, Librarians will attend two days of the New Teacher Academy (you do not need to attend whichever day is marked as First Year Teacher Only).  Even if you are a returning BISD employee, there are Librarian-specific expectations shared with you on the department day that will be important for you to hear.  Check with your Director for additional guidance on which days to attend.
  • Librarian EAs are not expected to attend.

New Teachers - First Year Teachers

  • Yes, classroom-based First Year Teachers should plan on attending all of the days of New Teacher Academy.
  • EAs are not expected to attend.

New to Birdville Teachers - one or more years experience from another district

  • Yes, classroom-based teachers should plan on attending New Teacher Academy.  If you are New to Birdville but have previous experience, you are invited to attend Day 1 and 2, only.  If you are a returning / re-hired BISD employee, please see your department/campus leadership for their preference on if you should attend New Teacher Academy.  Our preference is that you do attend as our district is ever-evolving and things likely were updated or changed since you last worked here.
  • EAs are not expected to attend.

Nurses

  • No.  You will receive your own on-boarding and induction training through your department leaders.

Tutors

  • No.  You will receive your own on-boarding and induction training through your department/campus leaders.

Special Education Educators

Special Education EAs

EAs are not expected to attend. You will receive your own on-boarding and induction training through your department, campus, and teacher leaders.

Yes, you should plan on attending New Teacher Academy for the applicable days.
