SODDY-DAISY, Tenn. -- The fifth-ranked Bradley Central Bearettes rolled to their third straight win with a 79-9 victory over Soddy-Daisy Friday evening.
Bradley Central (22-3, 10-0 District 5 AAA) won the opening tip and scored 12 seconds later on an Alexis Barnes layup to open up a 41-point run, the largest of the game that stretched into the second quarter. Katie Hamby ended the run on a field goal with 1:52 remaining in the half and the Bearettes went into the locker room up 43-2.
Bradley Central was then able to outscore Soddy-Daisy (3-20, 0-12 District 5 AAA) 19-7 in the third and the end of the bench was able to come in and outscore the Trojans 17-0 in the fourth in route to the victory.
The win is the first game the Bearettes have held an opponent to single digits since January 8, 2011, when Bradley Central defeated Notre Dame 86-9.
The Bearettes were led by Jamaryn Blair and Anna Walker who recorded 12 points each. Junior Cambree Mayo threw in 10 points to lead the bench in scoring. Walker and freshman center Syler Falcon recorded six rebounds each while Blair had nine assists and six steals on the night. Walker was also able to lead the way recording three of the teams four blocks.
Bradley was dominating in every facet of the game. The Bearettes were able to force 39 turnovers with 26 steals and outscore Soddy 51-0 off turnovers. Bradley outscored the hosts 30-2 in the paint, 17-0 on second-chance points off 22 offensive rebounds, and 24-0 in fastbreak scoring. The depth of the district leaders was seen as the bench outscored the Trojans 41-0. Bradley saw 13 different players score.
The Bearettes shot 43.1 percent (25-of-58) from the floor and 30 percent (9-of-30) from behind the 3-point line. Bradley was 20-for-28 (71.4 percent) from the free-throw line. Bradley was able to record 16 assists on the 25 made buckets and won the battle of the glass 37-19.
Soddy-Daisy shot an opponent season-low 9.1 percent (2-for-22) from the field and 1-of-7 (14.3 percent) from distance. The hosts shot 50 percent (4-of-8) from the charity stripe.
The Trojans were paced by Hamby who ended the night with seven points. Bailey Branam was the only other girl to score for the hosts and led the team with four rebounds and three steals.
The win is Bradley’s 54th consecutive regular-season victory over a district opponent.
Bradley Central returns home on Tuesday as the Bearettes take on in-county rival Walker Valley inside Jim Smiddy Arena. Tip-off is scheduled for 6 p.m.
With a win on Tuesday Bradley will guarantee at least a share of the district regular season title, their eighth straight.
