Dear GHS Students and Families:

This week for us marks a two year anniversary of when covid became a new word that entered our vocabulary and that would change our lives, especially in education. For the last two years, I worked diligently to make sure that Gowanda students had the best opportunities that we could offer given state restrictions. In 2020, we held individual graduation ceremonies and the first ever senior parade through the beautiful downtown Gowanda. I became a video editor overnight and we hosted a virtual Senior Class Night to give away over 70 thousand dollars in scholarships. In June of 2021, we planned a Senior “Night Under the Lights” in lieu of prom at the historic Hillis Field, hosted ticketed events that required masks for Senior Class Night, and held a socially distanced commencement ceremony at Hillis with a slight sprinkle of rain that didn’t diminish our spirits!

This spring, I am thrilled to announce that we are returning to normalcy for our end of year celebrations. Junior-Senior prom planning is deep and underway. This will take place again this year at Holiday Valley in May. Senior Class Night will return to pre-covid restrictions in the GHS Auditorium with guest speakers who will announce our local scholarships. The senior class has selected a senior trip to commemorate the end of their senior year. And finally, and most exciting for me, is that a normal graduation is planned for Hillis Field.
