Mom’s Snickerdoodles

Ingredients:

– 1/2 cup butter, softened

– 1/2 cup shortening

– 1 1/2 cups sugar

– 2 eggs

– 2 tsp vanilla extract or vanilla bean paste (optional)

– 2 3/4 cup flour

– 1 tsp cream of tartar

– 1 tsp baking soda

– 1/4 tsp salt

Cinnamon Sugar

– 2 tbsp sugar

– 2 tsp cinnamon

Instructions:

  1. Preheat oven to 400°F. Cream together the butter and shortening. Add in the sugar and eggs and mix until thoroughly combined.
  2. Whisk together the flour, cream of tartar, baking soda, and salt. Add the dry ingredients to the butter mixture and blend together.
  3. Using a cookie scoop, measure out about 1" round balls.
  4. Mix together the cinnamon sugar. Evenly coat the cookie balls in the cinnamon sugar mixture and place on an ungreased or parchment-lined baking sheet
  5. Bake for 8-10 minutes.

Notes:


– If you don't have shortening, you can double the amount of butter.
– I love the warmth and depth adding vanilla bean paste gives to these cookies, but if you are a purist, you can leave that out.
– Add apple pie spice or pumpkin pie spice to the cinnamon sugar mixture if you're feeling extra festive.
