I.        Topics Covered in This Course

II.        Strategies and Best Practices Used

To ensure a successful learning experience for every student, I employ many different teaching methods and strategies.  Some of those methods and strategies are discovery learning, cooperative learning (groups), use of manipulatives (hands-on learning) and technology, multiple problem solving techniques, multiple questioning techniques, and students as teachers.

III.        How Grades Will Be Determined

Although the most important part of a student’s success in Geometry is mastering the material, completing all

work assigned is just as important since practice leads to mastery. Students will be required to do the following:

There are two semester exams.  Semester 1 exam is 20% of the final semester 1 grade and will include all learned material from August to December.  Semester 2 exam is 20% of the final semester 2 grade and will include all learned material from the entire course.

The following North Bullitt High School grading scale will be used:

                90 -100 – A              80 - 89  – B             70 - 79  – C              60 - 69  – D          59 and below – F

The weighted grade calculation for each quarter will be as follows:

                10%        Bell Ringer

40%        Homework, Activities, Projects, Participation, Class Notes

                50%        Quizzes, Tests

IV.        Supplies Necessary for this Course

Scientific Calculator or Graphing Calculator for home use (we will be using a class set of TI-Nspire CX)

Pencil and Paper (Please have plenty, since these are the most used supplies)

Notebook (will be used for note-taking; any type is okay)

Math Folder (we will have classwork/homework that students will need to keep organized, thus is recommended

to have a specific folder for math.)

V.        Class Expectations

  1. Be Safe- This means students do not touch others, students keep his/her desk and belongings clear from aisles, and we build a safe classroom environment for all students to share.
  2. Be Respectful- This means that students respond when called upon, listen when myself or others are speaking, and do not sleep during class.
  3. Be Responsible- This begins with students being on time and seated when the bell rings and that students have all of the required materials with him/her.
  4. Follow Procedures- This is important to maintain a climate of learning in our classroom. When students walk into the room, they will immediately retrieve their assigned calculator. Students will be seated and begin the Bell Ringer for the day, there is to be no talking during this time. Electronic devices are not permitted to be seen or heard in the room. There will be no warnings given.

Some Geometry concepts can be difficult for many high school students.  It is extremely important for your student to acknowledge when they need extra help.  ESS will be available weekly. They may ask questions about the homework, get help with other lessons, or any other assistance they may need to be successful in Geometry.  If there are ever any concerns or questions, please contact me either in person, by phone, or email.  My planning period is 2nd period (8:25 - 9:25 am).

I also reserve the right to make changes to the syllabus should the need arise.

Thank you,

Ms. Dixon
