Parents: Any work that your child did on paper does not need to be turned in daily to the teacher. You may compile all of your child’s Distance Learning work that was done on paper in a folder and send in the folder on the next regular VES school day.

Calendar/Number Sense Routine:

Perimeter

  • Build at least two different shapes
  • Click and drag the rubber bands on to the board.  To turn the rubber bands, put them on the board.  Then click and drag one end to another peg.
  • Find the perimeter of each shape

(Answers vary based on the shape that was created.)

Reading:

  • Watch the video on how good readers connect the parts of the story that go together.
  • Choose one or more of these ways to read!
  • Reread a book.
  • Retell a book that you read yesterday. If you forget some important parts - it’s ok - reread!
  • Be sure to connect the parts of the story.
  • You can use scraps of paper or post-it notes to mark the parts that you want to connect.
  • Find the trouble/problem that takes place. Connect the steps that take place in order to solve the problem. -or- Look for a pattern that occurs in the story and connect the sections of the pattern.

Independent Reading (Pick one or more below)

  • Buddy-read with a person in your home or read to a special stuffed friend or doll

Optional Activities:

Parents:

Set aside the sight words that your child had difficulty reading.  For example: if your child did not recognize the word “because” just by seeing it, set aside the word “because”. You can make a pile off to the side or write a list of the words. (Save this list/pile).

Writing: Last week we reviewed nouns. Sometimes something belongs to a noun, this is called possession. For example I own a car, so we can say “That is Mrs. Del Guercio’s car”. The car belongs to me, it is what I possess.

The sight words you provide your child should be at least ten words from the list of words they had difficulty reading (from today’s reading lesson). If you do not have at least ten words, feel free to select ten on your own.

This year, we reviewed multiplication. Did you know there is a way to make bigger numbers smaller so they are easier to multiply?

Today you will use the distributive property to break down “harder” multiplication facts.

Math: To add, we count up and add on. To subtract, we backwards count and take away. Review the slides, most of the slides will be familiar. Be careful, I did add in new slides here and there!

  • Start today by identifying the signs.
  • Now look at each slide. Identify the picture that represents subtraction of addition.
  • Next, look at each slide. Today, you are not going to solve the math equation. Instead:
