(Economic Systems Standards) Standard 1.4 - People create governments in order to create peace and establish order. Laws are created to protect the rights and define the responsibilities of individuals and groups.

Students will examine how tools, technology, and other resources can be used to meet needs and wants.

Format of the lesson (the layout, what tools are employed to implement it )

This lesson was a mini hyper doc that included many online resources such as quizlet, padlet, Google Form, Google Earth, and an article. The lesson was divided into categories where each of these resources were put into use.

Type of the lesson (direct, inquiry, cooperative learning, a combination of several types in one). Prove. Provide evidence.

Lesson 12 was an indirect lesson as all of the information in the hyper-doc was provided for the student and they will perform their own research and studying. For example, the quizlet flashcards were included for the student to explore the meanings of the different economic systems and then they can take a test based on the terms that they have just learned. Additionally, the student was given an article with more information on economic systems. By giving an article, the student will underline/highlight important parts and take away any information they find valuable. Based on this lesson, I believe that it is an inquiry design. But, I am unsure if this is an individual assignment or can be done as group work. So, if this lesson was designed to be done in a group, cooperative learning would be included. I would say individual accountability would be a beneficial way to work on this lesson. This way the student can individually gain knowledge and then contribute to their classmates.

What model of teaching do you think is used in this lesson? What supports that?

The model of teaching used in this lesson is Experiential, when children learn by doing. This lesson plan provides a quizlet which allows children to retain new information at their own pace. There is also a Google form test where the student uses their knowledge and applies.

What is the pedagogical value of this lesson?

The student will learn about the different economic systems and study new information that is presented to them. The pedagogical value of this lesson is indirect. The student is using this hyper-doc to learn and engage in the different resources provided and come out of this with a new understanding of economic systems. The students are indirectly asked to perform their skills and learn a new topic.

Will you use this lesson in your classroom? Why?

Yes, I will use this lesson in my classroom.  One reason is because this lesson can be used as a whole class (collaborative), or it can be used individually. I think both ways would be beneficial. Being able to learn about the topic in a variety of ways and then applying knowledge is extremely important to evaluate where a student falls in their strengths and weaknesses on the topic. I believe that as a teacher, I will be able to find those strengths and weaknesses as students perform in this lesson.
