Options to Demonstrate Competency in Intermediate Algebra
Toward SBCC GE E-1 Requirement
Options to meet SBCC GE Area E-1
- Completion of one of the following courses: MATH 107, 108, 110C, 114, 117, 130, 130C, 131, 137, 137C, 138, 138C, 150, 150C, 160, 160C,180, 200, 210, 220; PSY 150; SOC 125; SS 110C or a substitution from another regionally accredited institution. A grade of C/2.0 or better, Pass, or Credit (where Pass and Credit are a C/2.0 or above) is required.
- A placement without a required or recommended co-requisite into a math course higher than MATH 107 AND catalog rights for 2018-19 or prior. (As displayed in Degree Works).
- Example 1: A placement of “MATH 137 with 137C” does NOT meet E-1 requirement because it has a co-requisite requirement. (Banner code MA50, MA40, or lower)
- Example 2: A placement of “College Algebra: MATH 137” or “Math 114, 117, Psy 150, Soc 125” DOES meet E-1. (Banner code MA60 or MS60 or higher).
- AP Score of 3 or higher in AP Calculus AB, AP Calculus BC, or AP Statistics. (Indicate on Degree Application)
- Pass MATH 87 AND pass the optional final exam. (Indicate on Degree Application)
- (See below for details) Completion of intermediate algebra in high school with a grade of C- or better, as determined by the Transcript Evaluation Office in consultation with the Math Department.

- International high school and college transcripts are considered official only if submitted as an official evaluation report from an accepted service (AICE or NACES members).
