The summer term might be in full swing but it seems we are still awaiting the sunny weather! Firstly, I hope you all received the Ofsted report last week. We are very proud of the whole school and the final report. Thank you to our whole school community for your continued hard work! The report is available on the school website if you haven’t had a chance to read it.
Thank you to everybody who has collected and donated batteries to the Eco Council’s battery recycling scheme! We filled all the boxes they sent and more! Congratulations also to all the children who completed and passed their Cycling Proficiency test last week! Cycling safely on the roads is such an important skill so thank you also to all our fantastic volunteers who work hard to provide this opportunity for our children.
Last week saw the children get to have their first swimming lessons of 2019 in the school pool. Thank you to everyone who has donated, cleaned, scrubbed, life saved and much more - we are very grateful for everything you have done to enable all our children to get swim - THANK YOU again!
Last week also saw our emotional resilience workshop. Feedback from the evening has been very positive and certainly gave me food for thought as both a teacher and a parent. We will email out the resources from this workshop as soon as we receive them. Thank you to all those who attended and supported the workshop.
As always for the summer term, we’ve got another busy two weeks ahead - moon buggy competition, swimming gala, drama performances, cross country, year 6 sleepover and a day of shows from Science Oxford! This is always a super busy term - please keep an eye on the important dates table below and check for Parent Mail messages regularly.
Transition Visit and Class Teachers from September 2019
This week, we will be sharing with the children who their class teachers will be next year. Most classes will continue to be taught by the same teacher with the exception of year 6 as Mrs Dobson will be the Headteacher from September.
Reception - Mrs Duffy
Year 1 - Mrs Hudson and Mrs Lewis
Year 2 - Mr MacKenzie
Year 3 - Miss Hawlor
Year 4 - Mrs Dendy
Year 5 - Miss Mundy
Year 6 - Mrs Dingley (Mrs Dingley will be joining us full time from September. She will be coming to visit the current year 5s this term before they have their ‘proper’ transition visits to year 6).
Mrs Surtell will cover classes on Wednesday afternoons, Thursdays and Fridays.
All children will visit their new classrooms and meet their new class teachers on Tuesday 2nd July. Before and after this date, there will also be lots of opportunities for children to meet their new teachers, share stories and visit lessons. We always aim to make the transition to the next year group as smooth as possible - if you have any questions about your child’s next stage, please pop and see us.
We’ve got the perfect opportunity to spend the day in your favourite comfy pyjamas whilst raising money for a good cause this June. On Friday 21st June, we would like all children to wear their best pyjamas for the day, whilst raising money for Helen and Douglas House who support local families with terminally ill children. Hagbourne Preschool are working hard to raise money to support Helen and Douglas House this term so all contributions collected on this day will go towards their fundraising.
We are so pleased to hear that lots of children are enjoying the Readathon challenge. Please can you start to bring in your Readathon sponsorship money! The final date that it can be brought into school is Friday 28th June. This can be made payable online at https://readforgood.org/sponsor-a-pupil-taking-part-in-readathon or by cash in an envelope with the sponsorship form.

If there have been any changes or updates to your child’s medical needs, including medications and allergies, please ensure that you inform the school and fill out the relevant forms. If your child has an inhaler or epipen in school please check the medication is in date!
Please can we also ask parents to let us know if your child was injured or particularly unwell over the weekend. If we are aware of any injuries we can be best prepared to follow up as needed.
Please also remember we are a nut and sesame seed free school, can we ask that you do not send your children in with any nut product - this includes Nutella and Peanut butter.
Remember all children have a log in to RM Unify (which can be found in their reading record or homework diary). Please use these websites to support your child’s learning at home. RM Unify can be accessed via the Pupil Area on the school website or via the following link https://hagbourneschool.rmunify.com/. Children in Key Stage 2 now also have access to Times Tables Rockstars to support them with learning their times tables.
Please could we ask that only Blue Badge holders park in the disabled spaces in the village hall. Please also take care not to block these spaces in. We do have families in our own school who need to use these spaces and they may also be needed by Blue Badge holders from the wider community. If this continues to be an issue, we will ask the local PCSOs to monitor the situation.

St. Andrews Church
Sunday 23rd June. Come and enjoy a delicious cream tea from 3.00 in the grounds of St Andrew’s Church, Hagbourne (weather permitting) (suggested donation of £3) And then, at 4.00 join us in church and sing some of our favourite hymns.
Cholsey Bluebirds will be running a girls football programme for 5-11 year olds.
It will be on Sunday 10-11 am at Cholsey Recreation ground.
