Welcome and welcome back!
Hello and welcome to a wonderful new school year! Every new school year brings a wonderful chance to learn new things, expand our knowledge and encounter wonderful experiences. I know that we are experiencing a unique time but the goal is to elevate the level of learning and performance in each ensemble and each student. I will definitely do my part and hope that you and your child will also participate in the process as well. Let’s make this a great year.

Grading : 45% Daily Participation, 15% Tests, 30% Concerts/projects, 10% Final exam
Tardies: Students are expected to be on time, tardy policy is the same as the school

The dues cover so many of our daily needs including but not limited to t-shirt, clinicians, workshops, sheet music, recordings, maintenance expenses, instrument repairs, awards (plaques, award certificates, letters, or pins presented to students at the end-of-the-year Orchestra Banquet), participation in LGPE.
Orchestra Uniforms
We perform in a formal uniform (tuxedo for boys and dress for girls). The cost of the dress is $70 and the tux pants and jacket is $30. Boys will have to provide a pleated shirt and black bowtie.
Classroom procedures
· Students have a working instrument in good playing condition
· Students play every day
· Students are respectful and engage in good rehearsal conduct at all times
· Following county guidelines
· Keep fingernails low (not above fingertips) as it will affect daily grade
· No food, candy, gum in class with the exception of water.
· Cell phone used for tuning but then put away or in phone caddy
Instruments
Cellist and bassist must complete an instrument check out form and return to Mrs. Benton. The form is on the website www.popeorchestra.net

Orchestra trip
We are planning a trip to Orlando in March 2022 but need your input. Please complete the survey so we can either proceed or cancel. The proposed dates are April 1 -4, 2022. The cost of the trip is $700 based on 40 participants. Please click here for the trip survey.
Allstate Orchestra
Allstate auditions (1st round) are virtual. Students prepare 3-octave scales and an etude for the audition. Audition materials are on the orchestra website. The cost is $25 per person and is not refundable.
Honor Orchestra
Honor Orchestra will be held in November 2021. Auditions are virtual and excerpts will be posted in the coming weeks. Students need to inform Mrs. Benton if they are interested.
Solo/Ensemble
Solo/Ensemble is an opportunity for students to play either a solo or in a small ensemble and get a rating by a judge (adjudicator) approved by the state music teachers’ association (GMEA). The cost is $12 per person and is not refundable.
Volunteering
