Hebrews 11: Faith That Moves Us Forward
Abel and Spiritual Destiny
————————————————————————————————————————
This week Pastor Jim continued his series titled “Faith That Moves Us Forward,” from Hebrews 11:4 by looking at the faith of Abel.
Read Genesis 4:3-5 and Hebrews 11:4 together to prepare for the following discussion:
Faith is Living in Obedience to God
- How would you define obedience?
- Pastor Jim mentioned that we can be committed without being surrendered. How do you see these two as different? Have you experienced a time in your life when you were committed, but not surrendered?
- Read 1 John 3:12 together and discuss how spiritual destinies are determined by obedience that comes from repentance and surrender.
Faith is Trusting in God’s Way to Salvation
- Read Leviticus 17:11 and then Romans 5:8-9 together.
- Discuss the Four False Gospels:
- The Morality Gospel
- The Cultural Gospel
- The Feelings Gospel
- The Tolerance Gospel
- Of these four, which one do you personally see as most prominent? Most dangerous?
- How do we as Christ-followers navigate the tension of living in a world of false gospels and sharing the One True Gospel?
- Close with reading together Romans 5:10
Prayer Focus: Thank the Lord for our salvation that comes only through the blood of Christ. Praise Jesus for being the Way, the Truth, and the Life. Ask the Lord for strength, courage, and grace to share the one true Gospel!
