In Relation to Ludda’s FFXIV Al Bhed Homebrew
Al Bhed Familial Terminology

I took a lot of inspiration from Scandinavian languages' usage of gendered terminology in order to differentiate specific family members. It felt really useful, for example instead of saying “my grandmother from my father’s side” etc, they would instead say “Farmor” which translates to father's mother. I did however recognize that this can make it difficult for non-binary people to navigate the language socially. So the gender neutral terms are of course, used in the case that a person is non-binary or a gender is unknown. In the case the gender is known and the person in question goes by either male or female pronouns, the Al Bhed will default to using gendered terminology.
I made up a lot of these and it was really just for fun to add onto the homebrew; so feel free to use them if you like them, or don’t if you don’t. I won’t dictate how you RP.
These only account for formal terminology, not their colloquial versions. (I.e. Mom, Pops, Mama, Papa, etc.) Using these as a base, you’re welcome to come up with whatever informal terms you think your character may use to refer to their family.
