Payments
What is involved in the cost of sessions?
- Systematic and structured math sessions with highly trained professionals and teachers - Our team is composed of highly trained professionals and teachers who are employees and not contractors. Our teachers go through a rigorous hiring process, training on structured math and the needs of students with learning difficulties, and ongoing coaching throughout their time at MFM.
- Customized lesson plans - Unlike reading programs for students with dyslexia, there is no scripted structured math curriculum that follows all the research on the needs of students with dyslexia and dyscalculia. Traditional tutoring simply follows a textbook page by page, whether it meets your child’s needs or not. At MFM, your specialist crafts each lesson to your child’s unique needs and strengths. Our individualized lesson plans ensure that your sessions include the math facts, accommodations, and foundational knowledge that your child needs to succeed.
- Supervision & coaching - At MFM, it is important to us that the quality remains high and the science of learning math practices are followed with fidelity. Our teachers meet for weekly collaboration and monthly one-on-one coaching. Your child’s sessions are observed by a coach at least quarterly. This collaborative process means that your child is benefiting from not just the expertise of their teacher but also guidance from coaches who have demonstrated longstanding & high-level expertise in helping diverse learners through systematic, explicit, and hands-on math methods.
- Hands-on math manipulatives - The research shows that students learn and retain the material better when manipulatives are used to help students connect concrete understanding with algorithm procedures. Your manipulatives are included in your package so that you can benefit from hands-on learning in an online environment.
- Public resources & educational materials - Not all students can afford private intervention for their learning needs. The public resources & educational materials on our website and YouTube channel are ways that we try to support both current families and those who are unable to afford private services. We also have The CRA Club, which provides training to teachers, tutors, and parents. To see more about these resources, please visit:
What is a tuition service?
- MFM is a monthly tuition service, meaning the price remains the same each month, regardless of how many sessions fit in that month, rather than being charged per session. Any unused lessons will not be credited, refunded, or rescheduled. The average session count will fluctuate to accommodate holidays. If you wish to discontinue services, you will need to finish out the current month and forfeit any credits or unused sessions. A two-week notice if you wish to discontinue services, and no refunds are issued for unused time.
What happens if I miss a payment?
- Missed payments will stop services until payment is made. Notification via email/text will be made if this happens. Missed sessions due to missed payments cannot be rescheduled or credited. Failure to rectify the payment within 5 days could cause the forfeiture of the spot.
- In the case of a returned ACH withdrawal or e-check, a $30 fee will be applied to my account to cover the associated bank fees.
Attendance
What happens if we miss a session?
- Missing sessions is discouraged. Students need repetition & regular practice for the material to stick. If you do need to miss a session, please let your teacher know in advance, since they are tailoring the curriculum based on the days they expect you to be in attendance.
What if we let our teacher know we will miss a session, and then our plans change, and we decide we’d like to attend?
- Please let your teacher know about this change as soon as you are aware. As long as it is still at least 48 business hours ahead of the session, your teacher should be able to attend class. Notices less than 48 hours cannot be accommodated since your teacher needs time to prep the lesson. Our office is open Monday through Thursday, closed on holidays.
Can we reschedule sessions?
- We do not allow student reschedules. We have found through experience that student reschedules tend to create scheduling confusion for teachers & families. It also adds extra admin time & costs to coordinate many student reschedules across different dates & times. By removing student reschedules, we are able to average lower per-session costs overall.
Can we get refunds if we miss a session?
- No. Your teacher holds this slot just for you. If we refund or credit missed sessions, this means your teacher doesn’t get paid for the time they reserved for you. This makes it hard for us to retain quality teachers if they are losing income for each missed session and cannot predict their monthly income.
- By removing the option for refunds due to missed student sessions, we are incentivizing families who are dedicated to attending all or most sessions. Eliminating this additional work for the admin team to calculate refunds also allows us to offer rates that yield lower per-session average costs.
- Think of it like gymnastics or baseball practice. If your child misses practice, your monthly rate remains the same. You’re paying for access to the coach’s time, not for a returnable good. Our sessions are like these other sports.
What happens if students are late for a session?
- If students are late for their session, teachers will wait for 15 minutes. After 15 minutes, if a student has not arrived, the session will be considered a "no-show session.” This session is not eligible for rescheduling or credits. Teachers will not return to finish a session after that 15-minute grace period.
What happens if we need to change schedules or withdraw from the program?
- Notify customer service that you’d like to make a change, and they can help with instructions for changing or discontinuing sessions. You’ll need to finish out the current month before beginning the new schedule or discontinuing. Please give us a minimum of two weeks' notice. No refunds or credits will be given for unused sessions.
What happens if our teacher misses a session?
- If your teacher needs to miss a session, you will be offered choices of times to reschedule. If you are unable to find an acceptable time to reschedule, you will be issued a credit. Rescheduling is generally preferred over issuing credits to keep up student repetition & progress.
- If your teacher reaches out to reschedule and does not receive a response within 3 business days, these sessions will be forfeited, and no credits will be given.
- In the case of extended absences or extenuating circumstances such as the death of a family member or natural disaster, we will not reschedule and will add a credit to your account.
- Credits cannot be exchanged for cash and will automatically apply towards your next monthly payment.
Are there sessions on holidays?
- Our observed holidays & office closures are:
- Martin Luther King Day
- Presidents Day
- MFM Break (the week of Memorial Day)
- July 4th (the week of 4th of July)
- Labor Day
- The week of Thanksgiving
- Winter Break (2 weeks)
- Subscribe to our holiday calendar here.
- December will be prorated due to the time off for winter break. The other months will be charged at full tuition. Tuition has been priced to take into account these office closures. Company holidays were figured into the pricing, and therefore, credits are not offered for these out-of-office dates.
Session Expectations
What do we need to bring to sessions?
- Students need to come to the session with earbuds or headphones, a computer, and a mouse. The camera and microphone must be turned on.
- Their manipulative kit should be with them for each session.
- Students should leave cell phones or other distractions in another room.
- If students arrive to the session without these materials, teachers reserve the right to end the session early. You will not receive a credit for the remainder of the session.
What devices can be used for sessions?
- Students cannot use phones or tablets for lessons at MFM (Chromebooks are on a case-by-case basis; some older models do not allow screen control). The only approved devices are desktop and laptop computers.
- If students arrive to the session on a phone, tablet, or Chromebook that does not allow screen control, teachers reserve the right to end the session early. You will not receive a credit for the remainder of the session.
Why are sessions recorded?
- MFM sessions are recorded for coaching, training, and marketing purposes. MFM will always notify you before using the video for marketing purposes. Parents may request viewing access for their child’s sessions if desired.
Where should my session be held?
- Students should participate in lessons while seated at a table or desk in a quiet space.
- If students attend MFM sessions from a setting other than home, such as a school setting or while out of town, it is your responsibility to ensure that students arrive on time and with the proper tech, internet, and materials. MFM will not reach out to schools directly to make arrangements.
- If students attend from a space that is not conducive to learning, teachers reserve the right to end the session early. You will not receive credit for the remainder of the session.
What are the student expectations during sessions?
- Students are expected to be active participants in sessions and follow directions given by their teachers.
- Swearing or speaking disrespectfully to teachers is not allowed in sessions.
- If students do not follow these expectations, the teacher reserves the right to end the session. The parent will be notified, and the session will not be rescheduled or credited.
Does MFM provide homework help?
- MFM is an intervention service and will be filling gaps in my child’s understanding, not helping them navigate current math classes or tutoring them on their homework. We will strive to align our work with schoolwork when possible. Read more about homework help here.
Does MFM provide homework or grades?
- MFM does not provide homework or grades and does not report to schools or states for homeschooled students.
Can MFM train my teacher or communicate with our school regarding progress or accommodations?
- Our math specialists will not be communicating with your child’s teacher or school. You can refer them to our public resources if they would like more information:
