Course Description: Cadet Band is a lab course in music reading, comprehension, expression, and performance on their selected instrument. Students will learn how to read music notation (pitch, rhythm, articulation, etc.). Students will play their instrument in an individual setting and in a group setting. Students will strive to achieve the characteristic tone of their instrument.

- Steady Beat - explore the concept of steady beat in various tempos. Identify and demonstrate a steady beat.
- Duration - identify and interpret the following durations: Whole, Dotted-Half, Half, Quarter, Eighth, and Sixteenth notes and corresponding rests.
- Rhythm Patterns - identify and perform various rhythmic patterns using note duration skills.
- Performance - demonstrate basic skill in reading, writing, identifying, and performing various rhythm patterns.
