Intent

What are we building on?

We are building on prior knowledge from KS3 & KS4 from information technology, creative media and creative arts. We are also building on students' understanding of morals and ethics. We want them to understand that not everything you see is real, and it is therefore important to be critical and aware.

Learning Aim B: Explore the use of digital manipulation for a specific media product
Assignment Title: Create a digitally manipulated image for a specific purpose

This section focuses on understanding how images are changed or enhanced in order to fulfil different purposes. Students will gain an insight into the processes and considerations of an image editor, as well as have an introduction in digital design software.

Implementation

What are we teaching?

 A. P1: Explain the development of approaches to image manipulation and the associated techniques.
I will be introduced to the brief and will  learn about the history of image manipulation and pre-digital techniques, as well as corrective and creative approaches..

A.M1: Analyse approaches to image manipulation using detailed examples relating to different purposes, with reference to their development, the techniques used and associated legal and ethical issues. 
Learn how to  compare and contrast examples of image manipulation for two different purposes, referencing the techniques used and ethical considerations.

A.P2: Explain the legal and ethical issues associated with the use of image manipulation for a specific sector.
I will learn about the moral implications of using image manipulation in different sectors, focusing on the advertising sector. I will be able to understand issues surrounding body image in advertising,as well as image usage rights.

A.D1: Evaluate detailed examples of the uses of different image manipulation approaches and techniques and their effectiveness in fulfilling different purposes.
I will be able to understand what is meant by the word ‘effectiveness’ in the context of image manipulation. This will help me to research and examine various examples of image manipulation techniques used for different purposes, leading me to make judgements of overall effectiveness.

Week 5-   B.P: Demonstrate the use of different digital image manipulation techniques to develop ideas for a manipulated image for a specific media product
I will be introduced to the second assignment from the set brief, focusing on experimentation using Adobe Photoshop. I will use my previous skills to produce a log of experimentations with tools such as the magic wand, image adjustments, and cropping.

B.M2/D2  Select appropriate digital image manipulation techniques to develop ideas for a manipulated image for a specific media product.

Likely to be PBL, lessons may be disrupted. Focus on refining techniques and annotating the experimentation process.

Creating a final media product - redesigning a movie poster of my choice.

What are we building on?

A practical task which will demonstrate use of  knowledge and software skills learnt in previous assignments in order to respond to a set brief. We would like to see more originality and creativity as there will be more  flexibility, as students will have to independently direct and implement their project.

Learning Aim C: Create a digitally manipulated image for a specific purpose
Assignment Title: Digital Image Manipulation Production


The key to this section is application of knowledge and skills in order to produce a successful final product. Assessment criteria will be explained but will not be addressed separately each week as some overlap and depend on individual ability.

Implementation

What are we teaching?

Idea Generation
I will consider the creative direction and influences of other movie posters. I will then produce a set of 3 possible idea sketches and produce a digital mock-up of ideas from secondary images.

Final Poster Production/ Portfolio
I will independently produce my redesigned poster while exploring tools and techniques using Adobe Photoshop.

Evaluation and Submission
I will evaluate my final movie poster against the original version, commenting on the production process with references to my choice of tools and techniques and any challenges faced. I will ensure all my annotations are completed and my work is presentable.
