Hard cover plastic covering
- Cut plastic with generous margins and ‘slide’ scissors through plastic rather than snip, snip, snip. Check margins are equal and cut plastic to correct size.
- Use ‘low tack’ sticky tape (or tape that has been stuck to clothes) to hold plastic to book. Start on cover closest to table. Tuck plastic in and tape to hold lightly to endpapers (careful not to pull too tight).
- Flip cover. Tuck plastic into endpaper and attach with small piece of ‘low tack’ tape.
- Cut plastic on 45-degree angle to the fold line of front cover near spine, gutter or fold line. Repeat until all four cuts are made.
- Open book out flat. Bend to tuck triangle cut into cover or dust cover if supplied. Space to reinforce spine edge.
- Place book back on table. Turn book so open side is facing you. Work on cover closest to table.
- Run finger along plastic edge to score. Tuck corner in against book edge. Run finger along new fold.
- Tape with plastic to plastic. No tape on endpapers please.
- Repeat with other corner on tableside.
- Remove ‘low tack’ tape gently. Place on table edge.
- Flip book. Ensure cover is not too tight and is bending spine over – if yes, release tape and flatten before reattaching ‘low tack tape’.
- Repeat as number 7 working on cover closest to table.
