From the Headteacher:
I can’t quite believe that it’s almost half term already - where has the time gone? We’ve had a fantastic half term with the children settling beautifully into their new year groups and new responsibilities. It’s been a busy time: we’ve managed to raise a significant amount of money for Macmillan and the NSPCC; the year 5’s have had a wonderful time at Checkendon on their ‘magical day out’ and they’ve also visited Rutherford Labs to have a science ‘space’ day; the year 4’s have visited the Living Rainforest and the year 3’s spent a lovely morning at the Millenium woods. The children have all been in competition for the best behaved class whilst walking around school and the winners will be announced at the end of this week! We’ve managed to squeeze quite a lot in to 7 weeks.
Many thanks for your support; wishing you all a safe and happy half term.
Hopefully by now everyone has signed up for parents’ evening. These will take place on Tuesday 22nd from 3:30-7pm and Wednesday 23rd from 3:30-6pm. We will look forward to seeing you there. Please use this as an opportunity to find out how your child is settling into their new class and to ask any questions you may have. Please bear in mind that appointments are only 10 minutes long and therefore if you have a more in depth question, it may be better to ask for a separate appointment at a later date.
Book Fair and Dressing up competition!
The school book fair arrives on 5th November. You are welcome to come and browse/ buy books after school on the 5th, 6th and 7th November. It will be held in the reception area outside the office. You never know, you might even be able to buy a couple of Christmas presents! We also have a competition for the children to win a £5 voucher (one per class) to be spent at the bookfair. If they would like to take part, on Tuesday 5th November, the children can come to school dressed as their favourite book character to launch the book fair.
Get Caught Reading
The ‘Get Caught Reading’ competition finishes this Friday. We already have a good number of entries, but many more of the children would like to enter. Prizes have been purchased and will be announced on Friday.
Y6 Secondary School Applications
A reminder that year 6 applications for a secondary school place needs to be made by 31st October. You can submit up to four choices in order of preference, and the county council strongly advise that you use all of your preferences. Secondary schools will be running open days and evenings throughout this term.
Applications can be submitted at: www.oxfordshire.gov.uk/admissions
Guidance for Parents/Carers on leaving the EU
Please read below the advice from the government on leaving the EU:
The EU Settlement Scheme
Read the guidance on EU Settlement Scheme to find out who needs to apply.
School places after Brexit:
Schools and local authorities cannot take into account nationality or immigration status when deciding which pupils to admit. There will be no change to this after Brexit.
Once the future immigration system is introduced in 2021, EU, EEA and Swiss nationals will not be able to enter the UK for the sole purpose of attending a state-funded school. This will not prevent children who are entering the UK for another purpose, for example, as a dependant of a worker or a student, from being eligible for a school place.
The right of Irish nationals to access education will continue to be protected under the Common Travel Area arrangements.
UK nationals with children who return from the EU after the UK leaves the EU will continue to be entitled to apply for a school place.
From Monday 4th November we will be supporting The Royal British Legion selling poppies and merchandise from the school office.
On Tuesday 12th November children can wear odd socks to school if they would like to help raise awareness around anti-bullying.
Children in Need - Friday 15th November
This year we will be supporting children in need by wearing spotty clothes and/or Children in Need merchandise that be purchased from Sainsburys and other retailers.
Aldi GETSET to eat fresh vouchers
We have reached our target - thank you to everyone who has brought in stickers
