Position Purpose

The Community Director will be primarily responsible for the supervision, coaching and care of Site Leaders in the Juvenile Justice and Parent Life ministry models. This includes providing resources, support, communication and accountability to ensure healthy (growing in depth and reach of young people) ministry.  

Essential Job Functions and Duties

The Community Director must become knowledgeable in the Youth For Christ 5 essentials, 3Story Relational Ministry, and a working understanding of the YFC ministry models utilized by Tacoma YFC. He/she should model 3story relationships and empower Site Leaders in the Juvenile Justice and Parent Life ministry models. and volunteer teams to do the same. The Community Director must demonstrate cultural humility, and be able to connect with culturally and racially diverse groups of people.

Site Leader Management: (60%)

  • Regularly visit ministry sites in assigned areas.
  • Supervise, coach and manage Site Leaders in the Juvenile Justice and Parent Life ministry models through regular connection
  • Work with Site Leaders in the Juvenile Justice and Parent Life ministry models to ensure that all national ministry standards (Processes, Standards & Best Practices) are achieved at every ministry site under their supervision.
  • Develop, assess, and regularly hold Site Leaders in the Juvenile Justice and Parent Life ministry models  accountable to Tacoma YFC ministry goals (through the Impact measurements) for each ministry site in their area.
  • Ensure that ministry and development data is regularly entered into YFC Impact and Salesforce from all ministry sites.
  • Responsible for onboarding of new volunteers for respective ministry sites.
  • Collaborate with the Development Director and Church Engagement Coordinator to create strategies for community, church and giving partner involvement, including regular documentation in Salesforce.

Community Connections: (15%)

  • Assist Site Leaders in the Juvenile Justice and Parent Life ministry models in developing relationships with community influencers to include schools and other organizations.
  • Work with Site Leaders in the Juvenile Justice and Parent Life ministry models as well as the  Church Engagement Coordinator to engage local churches and community partners in partnering with Tacoma Youth for Christ.

Ministry Training, Growth and Health: (15%)

  • In collaboration with the Ministry & Leadership Development Director, coordinate with Site Leaders in the Juvenile Justice and Parent Life ministry models to ensure that every leader in the area is trained, resourced and equipped.
  • Work with Site Leaders in the Juvenile Justice and Parent Life ministry models to recruit, onboard, and train volunteers.
  • Use Site Readiness Survey to take inventory of community assets (churches, existing ministries, etc.), and develop a strategy for starting new Ministry Sites.
  • Keep Ministry & Leadership Development Director aware of ministry health and progress 

Fund Development: (10%)

  • Full participation with the Development Team (this team includes the Development Director and Development Officer as well as Communications & Marketing Manager) in leveraging relationships and inviting others to hear and engage the story of Tacoma YFC. Called to be good stewards of God’s resources means we must collectively work towards a common goal 
  • Be a storyteller - each YFC staff should be ready and willing to share the mission of YFC  in a clear and compelling way. YFC staff will be given opportunities to share their stories in different mediums such as the Auction, Comedy Cafe, See the Story/Be the Story and smaller gatherings.
  • Development team members will coach staff how to be “Storytellers”
  • Build personal and community relationships to allow for event invites where the mission of YFC as well as volunteer,
  • Activities (invites, storytelling and relationship building) are tracked using YFC current tracking tools with both prospective and current partners. (Resources & training provided during on-boarding).
  • All staff, on occasion, may be asked to give a personal financial invitation as specific opportunities arise.

Spiritual Responsibilities

Because the overriding religious purpose and mission of Youth for Christ USA is to communicate and introduce the Gospel of Jesus Christ to young people and their families, and in that regard to make, educate and encourage life-long disciples of the Lord Jesus Christ, it is very important that you as an employee in the movement of Youth for Christ be recognized as an associate minister of the Gospel.

As an employee of Youth for Christ and a minister of the Gospel, YFC expects all employees to:

  • Seek God’s guidance and wisdom, through prayer and meditation, for the organization as a whole as well as for specific ministry initiatives.
  • Teach religious truth and facilitate religious observance at training and ministry events.
  • Participate and lead regular times of prayer, devotion and worship as a regular aspect of your role within YFC.
  • Teach and preach from the Holy Bible at YFC staff meetings, conferences, camps and events.

Evaluations

  • Mid Year & Annual Evaluation with supervisor.
  • Annual Evaluation will incorporate feedback from peers and direct reports.

Goals and Accountability

  • Goals set with supervisor by incorporating feedback and assessment of training times
  • Goals are evaluated quarterly and progress is discussed
  • Goals are based on fiscal year July - June
