In 2015, the district identified Mental Health Awareness to be a key goal and/or focus area moving forward.  One of the outcomes was the establishment of a Community Mental Health Awareness Committee.  Our committee has partnered with the family of Zach Kroll on the Love and Lean Walk for Mental Health on Saturday April 29.  We have also partnered with the City of Zeeland as Mayor Kevin Klynstra will proclaim the month of May "The First Annual be nice. Community Action Month" at the City Council meeting on April 17.  The flyer for this event is attached.

V.             DISCUSSION

A.               Furniture Bids                                                Lynn VanKampen

These furniture bids were reviewed by the Finance Committee on Friday, April 14, 2017.   Lynn VanKampen, with guidance from GMB Architects, prepared the attached document.  I continue to be highly appreciative of Lynn’s ability to sort and tabulate detail.  This furniture is for 2017 projects:  Creekside, Roosevelt / ZQuest, and East High School.   Creekside includes the renovated Quack Shack, additional lunchroom furniture, and the extended learning areas.   Roosevelt / ZQuest includes the new conference room, new classrooms, new music room, and extended learning areas.  East High School includes the renovated media center and four smaller extended learning areas.   We budgeted $565,000 for these projects.   Last month, you approved approximately $84,000 for the East High School office furniture, leaving approx. $481,000.  The total of this recommendation is $313,978 which is well under remaining budget.    Most, but not all bids are low bids.  Some bids were selected based on fit and purpose, rather than low bid.

B.        Superintendent Evaluation                 Vice-President Rick Dernberger

As a historical documentation, the superintendent reviewed progress on district goals and focus areas at the February 20, 2017, regular board meeting.    The board also met in closed session on February 20 to review the evaluation process and document.  The board met in closed session again on March 20 to review the combined results of the evaluation.  The board gave a summary statement and voted on the superintendent’s contract.
