Exploring Maritime Museum

On wednesday the 26th of February LS2 and Room 5 had the opportunity to go and explore the Maritime Museum. We went to invest more of our topic this term, Explorers and Adventurers.  There we met our host for the day, Lee.

After that Lee explained to us our timetable for the day. We split into two groups, Group A and Group B. In those two groups, at 10:30 one group would stay with Lee while the other group went around and explored the gallery. At 11:30 we swapped around. When it was 12:00 we met up together to watch the cannon and continued our exploration at the maritime Museum.

Lee had quickly gave us a tour of the Maritime Museum.  In our groups, Lee asked each group to create a scenario of either, Abel Tasman, James Cook, or Kupe. Our scenario was about the Maori’s and Abel Tasman starting a war.

After the scenarios we started to explore the Maritime Museum. The first place we explored in the Maritime Museum was Sir Peter Blake's exhibition. We then worked our way from there exploring the top of the museum to the bottom. We had the chance to see the different types of wakas and boats that they used a long time ago. They were very detailed.

It was a really busy and tiring day but also very fun. We had got to explore the museum and invest more of our topic. We found out new things about different people and how they had an impact on the world or with exploring. If we had the chance we’d go back there again.

This week LS2 and Room 5 had the opportunity to go and explore the Maritime Museum. We went to invest more of our topic of inquiry this term, Explorers and Adventurers. We were put into groups of 5 with an adult as a supervisor. We experienced new and interesting things about back in the day exploration. Way before there were planes, cars or trains people travelled by ships and wakas. People had different ways of navigation. Instead of using google maps people used the environment, drawn maps, compasses and more.
