Dear Kiva Community,

We hope you are well in this rainy weather! We continue to make ongoing progress in our construction efforts in our new building. We are winding down toward an end of Phase 1 construction and wanted to give you all an update. We have been made aware that crews are having difficulty installing the fire glass in the gym and this has held up progress. We anticipate that Phase 1 will be completed in three weeks, opening up more space for our students and staff. In addition, we plan to have our phone lines installed in the coming week. We know that the current phone to the school “clicks” after four rings, due to forwarding, but stay on the line as your calls are going through. Again, please reach out to Ms. Linda with any student related issues at 970-564-9377 or feel free to reach out to the Board by email at bod@kivacharter.org.

We want to share that the Cortez Fire Station will be hosting a Dedication and Open House for their new building and have extended an open invitation to any Kiva community members who wish to attend. It will be held on Friday, October 12, 2018 from 5 to 7 pm at 31 N. Washington St. They will provide tours and have light refreshments. They have been wonderful collaborators during our building construction and this is a great opportunity to show our appreciation and support.

We are seeking any volunteers that may be experts in web design to take a crack at updating our current website. The time spent can be counted toward your annual volunteer hours for the school.  If you have this expertise and the time please reach out to Urulu Yazzie at urulu.yazzie@kivacharter.org.

Lastly, we want to remind you that the school will be closed on Thursday (10/11) and Friday (10/12) so that staff may fully move into their new space and work on making it the perfect place for Montessori education. We appreciate your continued patience. If any volunteers are available to help move items out of the Zircons this Thursday at 8:00 am, the extra hands would be very much appreciated! Also, in an effort to preserve our new carpet, we are asking that all students, if possible, bring a pair of slippers or slip-on shoes for daily indoor use in the classrooms.

Thank you again for your continued support.

Warmly,

Children’s Kiva Montessori Elementary/Middle School Board of Directors
