Class of 2023

NO AP JUST STRAIGHT UP COLLEGE. I have matured so much because it made me become much more independent, but in a really positive way because this is such a good, caring environment.

An expressed interest in each student's success.

I have gained the skill of time management from taking college classes.

Better social skills, and also a stronger sense of myself. I can be myself. I also became more mature and know how and when to conduct myself a certain way. Also the classes at GMCHS are awesome.

There is much more freedom here than a regular high school. The courses offered here are at a college level, and students are able to get used to being in a college campus so that they are comfortable when they enter university. There are many resources here such as free tutoring and help at the math center, but these are only some of the many here at Grossmont College. GMCHS has clubs such as Key Clubs and Academic League, but there are also college clubs that can be joined as well. There are also amazing opportunities for internships on campus!

Small classes, Unity, Great support from teachers, respect between students, flexible schedule, sense of independence. Being in the college campus has helped me to decide what career pathway I want to follow.

Students here can build a schedule they want, (aside from the three hours spent in high school classes), you can choose classes you want to take from a large selection. But the best thing here is the education we are receiving.

It's everything a normal high school is, but it's everything more. The class is friendly and curious about the identity of everyone else, which I think is what brings the class close. The staff here is amazing and grows close to every student…

It allows students to make their own choices, taking ANY classes on campus for college prep. Teachers are more easily available to contact since there are limited amount of students compared to a comprehensive high school.

Although the college classes are a huge advantage, I have gained the most out of the high school classes. The teachers at GMCHS are very encouraging and inspire me to do my best.

...a personal counselor that will know each student. I will be getting my Associate's Degree before I graduate High School…

Before even knowing about GMCHS, I knew that a conventional high school wasn't for me. I was very, very unhappy… The day I shadowed GMCHS, I instantly felt seen, heard, and like I would be taken seriously. I felt an immediate connection to the students and the teachers, and, for the first time in my life, I felt truly happy at a school.

It offered me the chance to save myself over $80,000 in the future. When I finish with GMCHS I will have 65-70 units around 4 semesters at a university.

I have gained more one on one counseling about college applications and the college resources to help me get ready for my major and finish the classes needed to help me get ahead in college.

...I've gained the knowledge of what a college class is like, how to plan a schedule, and how to become more efficient in my work to suit my needs. I work between classes so that I have less at home homework.

The experience of listening to college professors while surrounded by college students is invaluable. It's not the same as simply learning from a professor in a high school setting, it's as if there's a different atmosphere present in the classroom.

From being here, I was able to clearly figure out what I wanted to do with my future and figured out that I didn't really want to go into psychology as a major. I was able to amass over 30 college credits without the use of AP which wouldn't be feasible without being on a college campus.

You won't hear the excuse of "but you're just a teen, what would you know?" here! Creative freedom on a lot of school work. Experience making presentations. Work experience (internship).

Being on a college campus had really helped me realize that college isn't scary at all and that I am totally ready for what comes next after high school.

My understanding is that other high schools are now starting to offer college classes, but GMCHS is unique in that students here are on a college campus and interact with adult college students, so they get a fuller experience of college campus life.
