Position Description

Title:

Ministry Support Coach

Job Function:  

Give leadership to equipping and coaching mission workers and Ministry Support Teams to raise the relational, prayer and financial support necessary for thriving ministry, and support in the overall development efforts of VMMissions.

Supervised by:

Director of Advancement

Load:

50% time, non-exempt (hourly)

Qualifications:

  1. Demonstrates an active faith in Jesus Christ, commitment to the church, and passion for God’s mission.
  2. An active member of a Christian congregation, with preference for churches in the Anabaptist tradition, and able to sign VMMissions’ Lifestyle Covenant.
  3. Strong reputation, demonstrated leadership abilities, excellent interpersonal skills, and proven ability to be a team player.
  4. Strong written and verbal communication skills, including public speaking.
  5. Ability to organize, resource, and encourage groups of volunteers in order to pursue a common goal.
  6. Experience in fundraising and working cross-culturally strongly preferred.
  7. Beneficial to have knowledge of Virginia Conference and VMMissions’ constituency.
  8. Computer skills for preparation and presentation of materials. Knowledge and skills for required programs include: Word, PowerPoint, Excel (and/or the Google equivalents) and, ideally, Raiser’s Edge.
  9. A current driver's license.
  10. Flexibility in working hours due to occasional evening and weekend meetings and travel (up to 2 weeks per year).
  11. Requires a college or professional degree.

Give leadership to equipping and coaching mission workers and Ministry Support Teams to raise the relational, prayer and financial support necessary for thriving ministry 

1.1

Train and coach VMMissions’ workers in skills of raising support (which includes relational, prayer and financial support) and in the formation of a strong Ministry Support Team (MST).

1.2

Educate VMMissions’ staff, workers and constituency concerning the role of MSTs.

1.3

Resource both the candidate and MST in all the aspects of their support-raising roles and provide tools for tracking support and facilitating communication with supporters.

1.4

Maintain records of MST members and roles, produce MST financial reports, regularly provide donation histories.

1.5

Coach and equip workers to build and maintain strong, honoring relationships with their MST members and broader network of mission partners.  

1.6

Maintain communication links with MSTs and applicable director for sharing information, resolving problems or misunderstandings, and for nurturing and assessing their health.

1.7

Organize at least one MST resourcing event, and at least one MST appreciation event, per year.

Meet (or skype) with each worker at least twice a year, and meet with each MST at least once a year, to coach them in their support-raising roles

Serve on the Advancement Team of VMMissions

2.1

Serve as an active member of the Advancement Team by attending meetings and pursuing the team’s goals of enhancing the base of faith and finances for ministry and communicating God’s transforming work through our ministries in ways that reach our entire constituency.

2.2

Provide periodic reports to the Director of Advancement for the purpose of keeping VMMissions’ leadership informed about the ongoing work of MSTs.

2.3

Encourage and facilitate prayer for workers and their MSTs among VMMissions’ Board, staff, and constituency.

2.4

Assist program staff with the planning and execution of worker retreats and training events.

2.5

Represent VMMissions in publicity and recruiting events among our constituency as requested and as possible.
