INTERNAL EVALUATION POLICY
__________________________________________________________________________________
RATIONALE
At Geraldine Preschool internal evaluation is an integral part of evaluating the quality of our practice. Internal evaluation is a systematic process for management and kaiako to evaluate the quality of our practice, processes and procedures through critical inquiry with the aim of continually improving positive learning outcomes for tamariki.
TE WHĀRIKI
Contribution/Mana tangata – Goal 3: Kaiako experience an environment where they are encouraged to learn with and alongside others.
PROCEDURES
Geraldine Preschool’s procedure and process will follow Ministry’s Ngā Aronga Whai Hua – Improving Quality In Early Childhood Education guidelines through effective internal and external evaluation.
The five steps of this pathway include:
- Noticing
- Investigating
- Collaborative sense making
- Prioritising to action
- Monitoring and evaluating impact
- Internal evaluation is regular and ongoing.
- Internal evaluations take place as required when kaiako, management or board respond to issues or events that arise in our preschool on a day-to-day basis.
- Internal evaluation may be linked to our Strategic Plan goals.
- Team leaders collaborate with their teams to intentionally decide on areas for evaluation.
- Inquiry groups will be established to engage in the process of an internal evaluation. this group will seek input from tamariki, whānau and the wider prechool community.
- Fortnightly staff meetings are used to discuss internal evaluation and progress is shared.
Support and guidance is offered through collaborative discussion.
- Whānau and tamariki are encouraged to contribute to internal evaluation.
- Individual kaiako growth or professional development might lead to an internal evaluation.
- Individual kaiako annual summary and registration ensures kaiako are reflecting on their own practices and performance as well as gaining feedback, advice and guidance from colleagues and mentors.
- An annual review of Geraldine Preschool Strategic Plan guides the focus as to what is important for review, growth and development in annual management plans. We aim to find out to what extent our vision is being realised. Strategic, Regular and Emergent evaluation processes have no time limit as these will vary depending on what is being evaluated.
- All completed internal evaluations are kept in the internal evaluation folder.
