Staff Instructions for Transferring Data from an Old School AppleID…

Staff Who Were NOT Notified

If you did not set up an AppleID with your school email address.  You don’t need to do anything.

Staff Who Were Notified

If you received this type of email you have a couple options.

  1. If they don’t care about saving any data (pictures / contacts / videos backups, etc..) they can just leave everything alone and after March 4th we’ll have access to the email if we need to give them a Managed Apple ID (MAID) in the future.
(It is possible that down the road staff will need a Managed Apple ID for Apple Classroom)

  1. If they do want to keep the data associated with that school email, then they will need to Update their old Apple ID.  To do this:
  1. Create a new email account
    (preferably gmail -
    https://www.google.com/gmail/about )
  2. Go to https://appleid.apple.com, sign in and put in the new email address. (If they can’t remember their password, they will need to go to https://iforgot.apple.com/password/verify/appleid and see if they can recover it. )

  1. Continue and your account should be updated.
  2. It appears that once the update is complete, if you will wait a day or so (24 hours) other devices using the school email will automatically update to the new email address that was used for the transfer.
