Emergency Evacuation Procedures

In the event of an emergency, or power failure during a performance.
Personnel Responsible
- The Production Stage Manager will make the decision to hold the show.
- Once the decision is made, they will proceed to the stage and announce that we are “Holding the Show.”
- If an evacuation is required, the Production Stage Manager will notify the Stage Management Team and follow the Evacuation Procedures outlined below.
In the Event of An Evacuation
Stage Management
Production Stage Manager:
- Once a decision is made to evacuate, notify the Stage Management Team to clear any Aisles of set items. The assistance of Actors may also be necessary.
- Proceed to the stage and direct patrons to “Proceed to the nearest exit and follow the instructions of our house staff.”
- Oversee evacuation from the stage, assisting house staff when and where necessary.
- Once the theater is cleared, confirm with the Head Usher and then proceed to the nearest available exit.
- Gather in the Lower Car Park Area near the road sign.
Assistant Stage Manager
- Assist Production Stage Manager to clear any Aisles of set items. Coordinate assistance from Actors when necessary.
- Exit to the Backstage area and make the evacuation announcement to the main office, backstage and costume shop areas.
- Facilitate exit of the pit musicians at Aisle 3.
- Confirm exit of the lighting board operator.
- Once Staff are cleared, assist patron evacuation at Aisle 4 and or 3 if necessary.
- Once the theater is cleared, do a final check of backstage and costume shop areas.
- Proceed to the nearest exit.
- Gather in the Lower Car Park Area.
House Staff
Head Usher
- Coordinate house staff to assist patron evacuation.
- Assign ushers to assist any patrons with major disabilities that require assistance.
- Assign usher to make an evacuation announcement in the rehearsal room, box office, back office, props den and set shop areas.
- Assign usher to direct patrons once outside to the correct meeting area in the Upper Car Park Area in front of the workshop.
- Oversea evacuation from Aisle 1 exit point, assisting house staff where necessary.
- Confirm with the Production Stage Manager that the theater, lobby, rehearsal room, back office, props den and box office are cleared.
- Proceed to the nearest available exit.
- Gather in the Upper Car Park Area in front of the workshop.
Ushers and Box Office Staff
- Follow the instructions of the Head Usher.
- Provide light for patron exit pathways. (All ushers are equipped with a flashlight.)
- Direct patrons to their nearest exit and instruct them to gather in the upper car park area in front of the workshop.
Performers and Crew
All performers, crew and staff should gather in the lower car park. To get there from various locations, please follow the following directions depending upon where you are in the space.
On Stage: Exit out Aisle 2 exit.
In the Back of 2: Exit out Aisle 2 exit.
In any Aisle: Exit out the Aisle you are in and make your way out the nearest exit.
The Pit: Exit out Aisle 3 and via the Back Deck. Do not use the patrons entrance
Sound Booth: Exit out Aisle 1 exit and make way down the side of the building.
Lighting Booth: Exit out Aisle 3 and via the Back Deck or use escape stairs. Do not use the patrons entrance
Backstage: Exit via the Back Deck. Do not use the patrons entrance.
Costume Shop: Exit via the Back Deck. Do not use the patrons entrance.
Fly Deck: Exit through Costume Shop and via the Back Deck. Do not use the patrons entrance.
The Props Den: Exit via the escape door off rehearsal room. Do not use the main patrons entrance.
The Rehearsal Room and Back Office: Exit via the escape door off the rehearsal room. Do not use the main patrons entrance.
The Tech Workshop and Storage: Exit out nearest exit and make way to lower car park, avoiding the access points of the main theater to prevent congestion.
