Earlier this week, every student in grades 9-11 met with a guidance counselor to do their preliminary course requests for the 2019-2020 school year. These meetings were very brief, designed only to be the first step in a multi-phase process. Over the next few months, each student will be called in for a longer follow-up meeting with either Mr. Mingione or Ms. Motto to go over their selections in more detail and further refine their eventual schedule. All parents will receive a letter in the mail beforehand inviting them to attend this meeting to help make the academic advising process more collaborative.
The finished schedules will be released in June, typically on the last day of classes. Since occasionally minds are changed or students don't receive the electives they initially requested due to scheduling conflicts or class size issues, the guidance counselors will then be available during Regents week to make additional revisions. While the goal is for every student to leave for the summer with a finalized fall schedule, they'll still be able to make further changes either over the summer or during the first week of school in September if necessary.
If you have any questions about the scheduling process, please don't hesitate to contact the guidance office. We look forward to helping all students choose the right courses to ensure their success in high school and beyond.
