At Redeemer Lutheran Church and School, we integrate technology within our educational framework to enhance learning experiences while instilling Christian values. This policy outlines our commitment to responsible digital citizenship, online safety, and the respectful use of technology.
As stewards of the resources provided to us by God, students are called to exercise care and responsibility in their use of school-provided Chromebooks and iPads, both at school and in their homes. These devices are gifts entrusted to us, and we must treat them with respect and ensure their protection from harm. Following Christian principles, students are expected to use these technological tools in a manner that reflects integrity and honor, following guidelines for appropriate content consumption and interaction. It is important to remember that software is in place to monitor our behavior. Practicing good digital citizenship is essential, including respecting the privacy of others, avoiding cyberbullying, and using technology responsibly. Our school maintains a zero-tolerance policy for bullying digitally or otherwise on or off campus, whether using a school-provided device or a personal device. This includes but is not limited to sending, posting, or sharing negative, harmful, false, or mean content about someone else; sharing personal or private information about someone that causes embarrassment or humiliation; any form of harassment, intimidation, or bullying; and inappropriate chatting or texting with the intent to embarrass or defame another. Practicing digital citizenship is essential, including respecting the privacy of others, avoiding cyberbullying, and using technology responsibly. Additionally, prioritizing online safety is paramount. Students should refrain from sharing personal information online, be cautious when interacting with strangers, and report any suspicious or inappropriate online behavior to a trusted adult. Our school fosters an environment of online safety and provides resources to educate students on how to navigate the digital world securely. We believe that by promoting responsible and safe online practices, we can create a positive and nurturing learning environment for all. It is crucial to note that this policy applies to both on and off-campus digital activity, even on personal devices. Violations will result in disciplinary action and may include suspension or expulsion.
Guidelines for the Appropriate Use of AI
Always acknowledge and reference the use of AI tools. Except for during exams and quizzes, utilizing writing assistants to ensure grammatical and punctuation accuracy is permissible. However, refrain from relying on AI to generate, rephrase, or alter the tone and structure of your writing. Educators will outline specific parameters regarding acceptable and unacceptable AI utilization. Failure to adhere to these guidelines may lead to disciplinary measures.
Device Damage
In the event of damage to a device, students must report it immediately, and a loaner device will be provided if necessary. It is essential to understand that personal devices cannot take the place of school-provided devices, as each Redeemer device is uniquely equipped to support the educational needs of our community. Please be aware that attaching peripherals to student devices is not allowed.
In the event of damage to a school-provided device, the following expenses may be expected:
Chromebook
iPad
Costs may vary based on the extent of the damage and the current market prices for parts and replacement devices. All repair-related expenses and shipping costs will be applied to the family account.
As students of RLCS, we uphold certain guidelines regarding the use of cell phones and smartwatches. Each day, students are reminded to place their cell phones and smart watches into the designated homeroom device locker. Student’s personal devices are not to be connected to the RLCS Wifi network. Throughout the school day, the use of personal cell phones or smart watches is prohibited. Those who disregard these guidelines and choose to use their devices during school hours will have them temporarily confiscated. All infractions related to cell phone usage will be communicated to parents via phone call. Confiscated devices will be securely held in the administrator's office for parents or guardians to retrieve at the conclusion of the school day. Administrative consequences will be administered in accordance with our Christian values. Further consequences will be determined based on the seriousness of the violation, potentially leading to suspension or expulsion. We believe that adhering to these policies fosters an environment conducive to spiritual growth and academic excellence.
We want to extend our heartfelt gratitude to each of you for your unwavering support in adhering to the digital device policy outlined by RLCS. Your commitment to this policy reflects a shared dedication to upholding Christian principles and fostering an environment of respect and responsibility.
