Setting Up a Learning Space

This guide provides suggestions for helping your student be successful while learning remotely.

Setting up a specific space that is designated for completing school work helps students associate that area with school.  Things to consider when preparing to set up a learning space for your student:

• Use a desk or table in a room that has minimal distractions. Consider having your student sit with their back to distractions if you are limited in space.
• Ensure access to internet (wired internet is preferred over cellular networks)
• A desk lamp to provide additional light
• Storage to hold items. Examples could include: pencil cases to store all the writing utensils/art supplies; shelves or storage boxes to store larger items like paper or books.

When it’s time to complete school work, it’s important that your student has items in the learning space that might be needed. This will help them stay focused on their work. Items that would be great to include in your student’s learning space:

• NHA issued Chromebook
• Headphones or earbuds
• Writing utensils | Pencils, pens, highlighters
• Art supplies | Crayons, markers, scissors, glue or glue sticks
• Paper (lined paper and blank paper)
• Post-it notes
• Notecards
