SummerKids Day Camp Instructor (seasonal temporary)              Full Color_Central Oregon.png

Job Overview:

Instructors are invaluable members of our staff who are role models, motivators, educators, caregivers and spark champions.  They facilitate a safe, fun, and confidence building summer for all our campers.  Counselors will work alongside counselors and leadership staff to implement our curricula, to contribute their ideas, and to ensure a memorable camp experience for the staff, campers, and families in the SummerKids community.  We strive to create an environment where each camper and staff member has a sense of belonging, opportunities to share passions, and a place to thrive.

Each week of camp, instructors are assigned a group of 8-12 campers aged 5-12 years old.  Instructors will build community within their group, lead games and activities, and manage the safety of their group.  They will also prepare for and lead some more involved activities for combined groups.  An instructor will serve as a mentor to less experienced counselors and may also supervise a junior counselor as part of their group. As mentors, they will also have the opportunity to share their knowledge and experience in youth development and to help counselors to discover and work towards their professional goals.

This position requires prior experience in the youth development field.  An instructor is enthusiastic, fun-loving, patient, relationship oriented, and genuinely cares about the well-being and development of our campers and other staff.  Instructors are also safety-minded, organized, and able to communicate ideas and needs effectively.

A first aid/CPR certification is required by the time the position begins.  There will be an opportunity to take this course with other Camp Fire staff prior to the start of staff training.

A four year degree or equivalent experience in camp or education environments is favorable.  However, Camp Fire recognizes the value of skills and knowledge gained outside of formal higher education and paid employment. Applicants who do not meet the minimum qualifications but present other qualifications or experience equivalent to those required will be considered and are encouraged to apply.

This is a 35-40 hour per week, seasonal position.  Camp Fire can offer one program week off during the summer.  Additional time may be requested but is not guaranteed.  Hours vary depending upon program needs.  Program hours are from 7:30am - 5:30pm.

June 17th - August 16th:  SummerKids Camp Sessions

Week of August 19th and 23rd:  Possible camp closing details (not required)

(There may be additional contract, full or part time opportunities with Camp Fire during the following school year.)

Join a community of passionate educators who work hard to make a positive impact on the community and provide opportunities for local youth to find their sparks and thrive.  Our flexible scheduling allows each counselor to plan at least one week off during the season to enjoy summer vacation.  If you have kids, they can come to camp for free!
