SONG OF SONGS 2 - Alone with Jesus

CONSIDER

• Song of Songs chapter 2 reveals the deep intimacy of love possible

• God created sex as a beautiful thing but Satan perverted it — like the analogy: a fire contained in a fireplace is warm and beautiful but outside of the fireplace, it can be destructive  <F60>

NOTES BY VERSE

Note: each ** comment in this document is listed in numerical order according to the verse(s) from this chapter

** The woman’s self description is common as an ordinary ‘Lilly of the Valley’, but her husband sees her differently — as special in comparison to others who are thorns

• Husbands must know that women need the 3 A’s of Affirmation, Attention and Affection otherwise they will wither away

• Likewise, husbands should pay attention to the woman’s intuition and discernment since she is their help-mate

• Husbands are commanded to love their wives as Christ loves the church and wives will respect them in return

• While men are typically dominant in the physical aspect, women should be joint-heirs spiritually

Song of Songs 2:1-2 NIV

[1] I am a rose of Sharon, a lily of the valleys. [2] Like a lily among thorns is my darling among the young women.

** Experience the Lord and see that He is good

Song of Songs 2:3 NIV

[3] Like an apple tree among the trees of the forest is my beloved among the young men. I delight to sit in his shade, and his fruit is sweet to my taste.

Psalm 34:8 NIV

[8] Taste and see that the Lord is good; blessed is the one who takes refuge in him.

1 Peter 2:2-3 NIV

[2] Like newborn babies, crave pure spiritual milk, so that by it you may grow up in your salvation, [3] now that you have tasted that the Lord is good.

** There is often a physical reaction to feelings of love especially in the infancy stage, but then the love relationship matures as should our relationship with Christ

Song of Songs 2:5 NIV

[5] Strengthen me with raisins, refresh me with apples, for I am faint with love.

** Do not stir up sexual desire (premarital sex) until you are married because if you do, God warns that it will bring intense heartache with consequences; the enemy desires to steal and destroy all things beautiful

Song of Songs 2:7 NIV

[7] Daughters of Jerusalem, I charge you by the gazelles and by the does of the field: Do not arouse or awaken love until it so desires.

Song of Songs 8:4 NIV

[4] Daughters of Jerusalem, I charge you: Do not arouse or awaken love until it so desires.

** Do we have an excitement to be with the Lord, anxiously waiting to seek His mercies in the morning?

Song of Songs 2:8-9 NIV

[8] Listen! My beloved! Look! Here he comes, leaping across the mountains, bounding over the hills. [9] My beloved is like a gazelle or a young stag. Look! There he stands behind our wall, gazing through the windows, peering through the lattice.

** God will make our alone time with Him the most important part of our day as we comprehend His love for us!

Song of Songs 2:14 NIV

[14] My dove in the clefts of the rock, in the hiding places on the mountainside, show me your face, let me hear your voice; for your voice is sweet, and your face is lovely.

Romans 8:38-39 NIV

[38] For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, [39] neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

** It is often the ‘little things in life’ that ruin everything; don’t ignore the seemingly minor detail because it often causes damage

Song of Songs 2:15 NIV

[15] Catch for us the foxes, the little foxes that ruin the vineyards, our vineyards that are in bloom.
