About the Farm: McEnroe Farm is a NOFA-NY LLC certified organic farm producing compost and soils, organic and naturally raised meats, greenhouse tomatoes, seasonal produce, and nursery transplants. The soils and compost are approved for organic production and have been used by farms, gardens, landscapers, and green roofers since 1987. A unique, bio-diverse farm, we adhere to organic principles of caring for the soil and being stewards of the earth. The farm is over 1,200 acres located in Millerton, NY, in Northern Dutchess county.

About the Position: The McEnroe Organic Farm Compost Facility is looking for a dedicated and motivated individual to compliment our compost facility staff.  The candidate will be taking a step into the world of organic recycling and sustainability. They will participate in all aspects of the compost facility operation.  This will take you on the journey from raw input to the sale of a high-quality product and everything in between.  Support the cycle and make a difference today!

Apprentice Duties: The following is expected out of the apprentice:

• Assists in Daily Compost Operations
• Assist in the completion of daily logs and inspections

• Temperature Monitoring Logs
• Equipment Logs
• Inspecting organic input for quality control

• Assist in the manufacturing of products and data logging

• Bagging and mixing logs
• Bagging and assisting in making soil blends

• Assist in the sales and customer service of the compost facility
• Assist in the processing of raw materials

• Building windrows
• Preparing raw inputs for use
• Input Logs and windrow building logs

• Assist in marketing strategies for products.
• Attend Mid-Hudson CRAFT (Collaborative Regional Alliance for Farmer Training). Apprentices are required to visit and learn from other farms at bi-monthly CRAFT events.

Requirements of the Apprentice:

• Paid overtime as needed
• Safely lift 50 pounds for extended periods of  time
• Be on feet for extended periods of time
• Be able to crouch, bend, kneel, walk, and stand for extended periods of time
• Handle working in inclement weather
• Handle working in a loud environment
• Be able to work in a dusty environment

• Proper Personal Protection Equipment will be provided

Position Details:

• This is a 6 month (April- October) full time position with the possibility of extension
• 40+ hour work week, overtime compensated over 40 hours
• Frequent weekend work required
• Bi-weekly apprenticeship meetings
• Compensation $14.75/ hour and shared on farm housing if interested

About Millerton, NY

• The farm and on-farm housing are located in Millerton, NY
• There are gas stations, post offices, restaurants, hardware stores, a Dollar General, a CVS, a grocery store and other various shops 10 minutes North or South of the Farm
• The closest cities are at least 40 minutes away
• There is no bus service in the area, and you must arrange for your own transportation to stores outside of work hours
