Death Knight

World of Warcraft

Forged with Jeff Reynolds and Kristen Ashton

Featured Forger: Joseph Ghormley

Introduction

Originally created by Gul’dan to replace the slaughtered Warlock clans, Death Knights were the corpses of fallen Stormwind Knights brought back to life by being fused with the souls of dead. This iteration mostly died out during the Second War.

The second version were Paladins seeking desperate measures to contain the Scourge plaguing their lands. The most famous was Arthas Menethil, prince and paladin willing to sacrifice everything to save his people. In time, an army of Death Knights would serve Arthas, only to be freed from his mental hold following an explosion of light in Light’s Hope Chapel.

These newly free-willed knights formed the Knights of the Ebon Blade and joined the Horde and Alliance to end greater evils in the world.

Joseph’s Choices

Rising from the ranks of the order of rebel Death Knights formed to fight the Lich King, the Ebon Blade, the Deathlord of Acherus took command of the order to combat the burning legion's third invasion of Azeroth.

I see the Death lord as a female player character death knight, female just to counterbalance the male arthas silhouette. I've just been calling this hero the Deathlord, but they all need a name (morales, sgt. hammer, probius). A few ideas as a proper name; Kaiah. Bellatrix. Adorna. Or just come up with your own.

The kit. Numbers in [ ] are what I put for values that aren't balanced but ballpark.

Deathlord of Acherus

Trait (D) 'Empower Runeweapon'
Activatable
When you Activate this ability, your mana bar instead becomes 6 runes that do not recharge. You have 2 frost runes, 2 unholy runes, and 2 death runes that you use to enhance basic abilities. While active, you gain 20% attack speed and 15% spell damage. Your basic abilities consume runes instead of mana, and while runes are available, abilities will have a 1 second global cooldown. Death runes count as either frost or unholy runes. This lasts for [12] seconds, or until all runes have been used. The trait's cool down of [20] seconds does not start until the effect finishes.

(Q) Frost strike. 40 mana,
Deals [medium damage] and slows by 15% for 1.5 seconds.
(Q+D) icy touch. 1 frost rune
Deals [medium damage] and slows by 25% for 1.5 seconds. Ranged ability, non-skill shot.

(W) Plague strike. 50 mana.
Deals [low damage] and places a [medium] DoT on the target for 2 seconds
(W+D) pestilence. 1 unholy rune.
Deals [low damage] and places a [medium] DoT on the target for 3.5 seconds. Any enemy within [small range] of the target has a DoT placed on them equal to the full damage of all the DoTs currently affecting the primary target, up to a max of 15% of the secondary target's max hp.

(E) Blood Strike. 90 mana.
Deals [medium+ damage] and you regain hp equal to 25% of damage dealt and 25% of the damage as a shield.
(E+D) Death strike. 1 unholy and frost rune.
Deals [medium+ damage] and you regain hp equal to 25% of damage dealt and 25% of the damage as a shield.
Death strike also spawns a blood worm that doesn't move around. This creature is targetable and lasts for [4] seconds or until killed. When it dies, it showers nearby ally heroes with health. This amount is equal to [35]% of damage dealt to enemies in the area divided evenly among allies within range.

(R1) Obliterate
After a very small dash forward, deals [high] single target damage. If the target is taking ongoing damage, they are also stunned for [1.5] seconds.

(R2) Deathgrip
Creates a small circle on the ground, and after a short delay, any enemy hero is pulled to your location and stunned for [.5] seconds. (Small like a minion. Could theoretically snag 2 heroes)

The Deathlord is a melee assassin with high burst potential. They also have a support leaning, able to heal nearby allies every so often.

Trait- “Runic Power”

Death Knight tanks are known for their ability to heal themselves and others through taking damage. In this Death Knight kit we are going to try to bring the feeling of playing a Death Knight Tank to the nexus- starting with this trait- Runic Power. Managing the use of Runes and Runic power seems to the one of the most complicated things for Death Knight Players, but if done well it can be devastating to the enemy. This Death Knight kit will not have a mana bar, but instead 6 Runes that will be used for abilities. Each rune has its own cooldown and when used will build up “Runic Power” for the Death Knight.

Mount-  Vilebrood Vanquisher

Q- “Death Strike” Uses All Runic Power to Cast

The Death Knight reels back and smashes down her 2 handed axe “Maw of the Damned” on an enemy dealing a large amount of damage. When this strike hits the enemy, the Death Knight will be healed for a percentage of the damage that was dealt to her over the last 5 seconds. This ability would also uses the Runic Power that the Death Knight has saved and applies that to the heal percentage as well.

W- “Death’s Caress” 1 Rune to Cast

Applies a disease to the target that does ticking damage. This disease spreads to other enemies that come in range of it. If this disease is spread to 2 or more targets it will begin to heal the Death Knight for a percentage of the damage that is being dealt. This ability costs one rune to cast and each time it is cast will feed the Death Knight Runic Power.

E- “Bone Shield” 3 Runes to Cast

Using this ability uses 3 runes and gives the Death Knight 3 stacks of Bone Shield. Each stack of Bone Shield will prevent damage from the next attack (no matter what that attack was.) Each stack will drop off when the Death Knight is attacked.

Heroic 1- “Death and Decay” 6 Runes to Cast

The Death Knight chooses a AoE circle on the battlefield to cast Death and Decay- a large decaying blood circle on the battlefield that will deal ticking damage to all enemies in the area and return all damage dealt by this ability to the Death Knight as health. While inside of this circle the Death Knight’s basic attacks will have cleave.

Heroic 2- “Deathgrip” Featured Forger Ability 3 Runes to Cast

Creates a small circle on the ground, and after a short delay, any enemy hero is pulled to your location and stunned for [.5] seconds. (Small like a minion. Could theoretically snag 2 heroes)”

Name

        Dirk Bloodsoul

Role

        Warrior - Bruiser

Trait

Addiction Affliction

Death Knights are addicted to causing suffering and death. If they don’t, they feel immeasurable suffering themselves. The Death Knight takes damage the longer they go without killing/damaging something. Damage slowly turns off the DOT damage. Killing a Hero gives him a longer time period until the DOT turns again. Killing a minion/merc turns off the DOT.

Mount

Winged Steed of the Ebon Blade

        Unique Hearth - Death Gate

Q

Purgatory

Being undead, the Death Knight has the ability to tank more damage than they have the health to take. Activating this ability allows them to amplify healing received to offset the damage being taken. If this is not enough, the Death Knight will die.

W

Plague Strike - Featured Forger Ability

Deals [low damage] and places a [medium] DoT on the target for 2 seconds. Activate again to deal [low damage] and place a [medium] DoT on the target for 3.5 seconds. Any enemy within [small range] of the target has a DoT placed on them equal to the full damage of all the DoTs currently affecting the primary target, up to a max of 15% of the secondary target's max hp.

E

Defile

Ramming his rune blade into the ground, the Death Knight defiles the ground around him, creating a zone of plague. Enemies in this area will suffer a plague damage DOT. The more enemies under the DOT, the greater the area of the defiled ground. This can be activated one more time to explode the DOTs on the enemies and the defiled ground.

R1

Necrosis

The Death Knight chooses an enemy Hero. They are now afflicted with Necrosis. This is a permanent DOT that cannot be cleansed. Their life now ticks away and damage dealt by the Death Knight is doubled (maybe even tripled later on).

R2

Infected Claws

Bringer of the plague, the Death Knight should never get close enough to deliver a swipe with his hand. If he does, those caught in this arc are infected with the plague. Now they occasionally hit friendly units more and more frequently and eventually spreading the plague to their comrades should they hit them. At the end of the plague spread timer, those infected deal damage equal to the damage they’ve output to themselves.
