BETTY WATSON SCHOLARSHIP APPLICATION

The Betty Watson Scholarship is awarded in the amount of $1,000 by the Stanly County Extension & Community Association. The applicant must be a resident of Stanly County.  Scholarships will be given to students enrolled in Human Development & Family Studies, Child Development, Nutrition, Food Science, or Ag & Extension Education with a focus in Family & Consumer Sciences at an accredited college or university. Adults continuing their education in an accredited college program will also be considered. All applicants will be considered regardless of race, color, creed, national origin, sex, age or disability or sexual orientation.

Applications are available at the NC Cooperative Extension Service, Stanly County Center, 26032-E Newt Road, Albemarle, NC 28001. The application deadline has been extended and must be received by March 31, 2021 and the recipient will be announced by June 1, 2021.

Decisions of the committee will be based on academic scholarship, initiative, character and leadership ability. Scholarship finalists may be interviewed by the Betty Watson Scholarship Selection Committee. Scholarship payment will be sent directly to the college or university where recipient is enrolled.

Important Information

Be sure that you have filed an application for admission to at least one accredited Institution of Higher Learning and be certain to arrange for and take the College Entrance Examination Board Scholastic Aptitude Test or ACT Assessment. It is the scholarship candidate’s responsibility to make all arrangements for college admissions.

Ranking Criteria

• Twenty-Five (25%) Intent to major in Human Development & Family Studies, Child Development, Nutrition, Food Science, or Agriculture Extension Education.
• Twenty-Five (25%) Scholastic Achievement (GPA/Class Rank)
• Twenty-Five (25%) College Aptitude (grades-enrolled) or SAT/ACT Scores
• Twenty-Five (25%) Initiative, Character and/or Leadership Ability

Financial need may be considered in some cases.

Finalists for Scholarship may be interviewed by the Betty Watson Scholarship Selection Committee

• Two sealed letters of recommendation: one academic and one other – non-related.
