School camp 2020

2020 looks like it may have turned a corner and Term 4 is going well for our students, this was highlighted by an amazing camp at school on Friday. Room 4 have spent a couple of weeks making plans for the camp as it tied in with their inquiry “Leadership influences perception and creates change.” They organised a rotation of 8 different activities, worked out a timetable, planned meals, communicated with parents and created a gear list. They decided on a full day of activities followed by pizza hut and ice cream.

On the day they welcomed the school and set off for their activities which included; rounders, an obstacle course, sponge races, 2 ball soccer, dancing, colouring, bull rush and stick in the mud. The baking and fruit were well received during our breaks! It was lovely to see so many risk takers and sportsmanship which were rewarded by record numbers of Ko Wai Au cards.

After activities the massive pizza and chips order arrived and vanished almost as quick before a nice ice cream cone to round off dinner.

Our year 3 and 4 students set up their beds in the classrooms and year 5 and 6 pitched their tents by the playground.

We roasted marshmallows by the fire and sang waiata together before farewelling our brave year 1s and 2s.

We waited patiently for dusk to start an epic game of spotlight before getting ready for bed.

 It didn’t take TOO long for there to be happy snoring campers! The tents fared well through the rain with only a few leaks to report. As dawn broke the campers arose and Max and Tio set to work making a deluxe breakfast including pancakes, bacon and egg rolls and weetbix (and some leftover pizza). The rain broke long enough to take down the tents and relax before being collected to go home.

It was one of the best school camps we have had and credit to our amazing room 4 students for their leadership both in planning and on the day. A massive thank you to Calypso and Pizza Hut for feeding our children and also to all the staff who worked tirelessly on the day to make it a special and memorable experience for our tamariki.

Some student voice from the day;

Clair “This is the best school camp EVER!”

Arran “best camp ever!”

Leslie ‘I woke up and forgot I was at school”

Zane “This is the best day ever!!”

Room 4 will be budgeting the event, camp fees are confirmed at $10 per student. Please pay Toni when you can.
